Debian posters

Debian posters

These posters were designed for LinuxExpo Australia, which was held in March of 2000 in Sydney. They were designed by my sister, Arti, and hurrily printed by me.

The posters were designed in Adobe PageMaker 6.5 and the EPS files (containing the images) were modified by Adobe PhotoShop. The posters use the Impact (download) font. Unfortunately there was no free software at the time that could do the job.

You will notice that there is a some amount of pixellation on the Baby GNU image and TuX. Fortunately the Debian Swirl came out a lot better than I expected. I was not able to find, or in the case of TuX, obtain high-quality versions of the images. Oh well. If you know where they can be found please let me know.

In order to not tempt anyone to the Dark Side I have deliberately not uploaded the original PageMaker, PhotoShop and font files. Instead I have uploaded output ready (A1 size) Postscript files. Each of these files is approximately 277Mb uncompressed. You have been warned!

The original data files are available should anyone be writing free software to read the PageMaker format or should you wish to make a similiar poster. Since they are large and from a non-free product I have not posted them here. Please contact me if you would like them.

When I went to print these at Kinkos, it took about 45 minutes (including lamination), so make sure you leave plenty of time to get them done. Total turnaround time was 36 hours from submission to Kinkos until I had them in my hands.

The preview PDF files give a good representation of what the poster looks like, except the Debian swirl turns out pink instead of red. It does look good when printed (but be sure and get a printing proof from Kinkos).

If you do make use of these posters please either drop me, or my sister, a line. You are not obliged to do so, however, as the posters have been released to the Public Domain.

Update: 26 April 2000

Martin Schulze has also made some posters and flyers available at Infodrom. You can also take a look at the flyer we put together for the Sydney show.
