Obtaining CERNLIB on Debian

CERNLIB is already available on your local Debian mirror. To download and install the packages, run "apt-get install cernlib" as root. Note that this will install almost all of CERNLIB, using up a lot of disk space; if you only need some programs or libraries, see the packages page to decide exactly what to install. If you want to look at the source code (a right promised you by the GNU General Public License), run "apt-get source cernlib". See this FAQ entry for details about compiling CERNLIB from source, should you so desire.

Mn_Fit and cfortran packages are also available directly from Debian. N.B. Since Debian package names may not include capital letters or underscores, the Mn_Fit package is named mn-fit.

I currently do not plan to make backports from Sid available for Sarge / Etch; the versions of CERNLIB / Mn_Fit / cfortran available there work well enough.
