Title: The use of Free Software to fight the platformization of education

Over the last few years, Brazilian public educational institutions have
increased their adoption of proprietary educational platforms offered by large
private corporations.

This phenomenon is known as the platformization of education and gained
strength especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, when educational institutions
had to move fast to adopt distance learning programs.

This problem is not exclusive to Brazil, which is why this presentation aims to
promote reflections by sharing the platformization scenario in Brazil and ideas
on how we can use Free Software to reduce the digital monopoly.

There are and have been several initiatives in Brazil to promote the use of
Free Software in educational institutions. Some of these projects will be used
as example of a way out of the technological dominance of big techs.
