Anbei DWN 45 im Original und frischer Übersetzung. Bitte überprüft
dies gewissenhaft. Solltet Ihr noch Änderungsvorschläge haben, so
pflegt diese bitte gleich im CVS ein oder sendet Helge einen Patch.

Daß ich die Vorschau heute verschicke, liegt daran, daß Helge derzeit
beschäftigt ist. Trotzdem Reply-To auf ihn gesetzt.

<p>Welcome to this year's 45th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  Bruce Perens has written an <a
href="http://technocrat.net/article.pl?sid=04/11/08/1640206";>article</a> on
software patents in standards and explains how they hinder software
development.  It seems that the memory consumption problem in SpamAssassin 3
is finally <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00283.html";>\
fixed</a>, so the package may be able to migrate into sarge.</p>

<p><strong>Release Status Update.</strong> Colin Watson sent in a new <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2004/11/msg00003.html";>\
release status update</a> in which he reported that two more people are
helping with release management and that the toolchain has been finalised.
However, several architectures still face upgrade problems with regards to the
kernel and glibc.  He also revealed that sarge will be released with KDE 3.2.
The key blocker, though, the buildd network, hasn't been adjusted to
testing-security yet.</p>

<p><strong>GNOME 2.8 for Sarge?</strong> On behalf of the GNOME team Jordi
Mallach <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/11/msg00067.html";>\
wondered</a> if he may upload GNOME 2.8 into unstable since it was released
early in September already when sarge was said to be frozen really soon.
Since it has received a lot of testing and many users are already using it
through the experimental distribution, it seems to be suited for the new
stable Debian release.  The release team has since then <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/11/msg00107.html";>approved</a>
the upload of GNOME 2.8.1 into unstable, which may migrate in parts or as a
whole into sarge as well.</p>

<p><strong>Digging into the Installer.</strong> Ingrid Marson <a
href="http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/linuxunix/0,39020390,39173518,00.htm";>\
interviewed</a> David Pashley about the new <a
href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">Debian installer</a>, which focuses on
an easy installation.  Even though the installer is still text-based some
developers are working on a graphical interface.  Anthony Awtrey added that
the Installer supports automation by allowing to pre-seed a configuration with
all the options managed by the Debian configuration system.</p>

<p><strong>Large Opteron Cluster running Debian.</strong> Thomas Lange <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-beowulf/2004/11/msg00010.html";>\
reported</a> about the new AMD Opteron cluster <a
href="http://www.hpc2n.umu.se/resources/sarek.html";>Sarek</a> at the Umeå
University.  It consists of 192 nodes (384 CPUs), was installed with <a
href="http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/";>FAI</a> (Fully Automated
Installation) and runs the pure64 port of Debian GNU/Linux for amd64 with a
2.6 Linux kernel.  This cluster was even listed at rank 165 on the top <a
href="http://top500.org/lists/plists.php?Y=2004&amp;M=06&amp;TB=2";>500
list</a> of June 2004 and at rank 220 in <a
href="http://top500.org/lists/plists.php?Y=2004&amp;M=11&amp;TB=3";>\
November</a>.</p>

<p><strong>YaST2 for Debian?</strong> Mario Fux was <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00160.html";>looking</a>
for somebody to port YaST2 to Debian.  It's an overall configuration utility
which seems to be missing in Debian.  Jaldhar Vyas <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00161.html";>answered</a>
that he planned to check whether he can package YaST2 for Debian.  He also <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00166.html";>mentioned</a>
a YaST2-frontend to debconf.</p>

<p><strong>Help for Upstream Software Authors.</strong> Adrian von Bidder <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00181.html";>started</a>
to document <a href="http://wiki.debian.net/SoftwarePackaging";>hints</a> for
upstream authors which will make the work for package maintainers easier.  The
idea is not to duplicate the Debian policy, but to give upstream developers an
idea how their software can be written to be easily packaged.</p>

<p><strong>Mounting removable Media.</strong> Martin Pitt <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00201.html";>reported</a>
about the idea of upstream about automatic USB/FireWire device handling.
Since he is not satisfied with this he has developed <code>pmount</code>,
which can be executed by a normal user to mount removable media.  He would
like to propagate this approach to Debian.</p>

<p><strong>PHP Accelerator undistributable?</strong> Andres Solomon <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/11/msg00078.html";>noticed</a>
that turck-mmcache, a precompiler and cache to improve performance of PHP
scripts, is covered under the GNU GPL but links against PHP4, whose license is
incompatible with the GNU GPL.  Since this renders the package undistributable
by Debian, an interested user is <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/11/msg00090.html";>seeking</a>
a license change.</p>

<p><strong>Security Updates.</strong> You know the drill.  Please make sure
that you update your systems if you have any of these packages installed.</p>

über Softwarepatente in Standards geschrieben und erklärte, wie sie
Softwareentwicklung behinderten. Es scheint, dass das Problem mit dem
Arbeitsspeicherverbrauch in SpamAssassin 3 endlich <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00283.html";>\
behoben</a> ist, so dass das Paket in der Lage sein könnte, nach Sarge

<p><strong>Aktualisierung des Veröffentlichungsstatus.</strong> Colin

würden und dass die Toolchain endgültig festgelegt worden sei. Allerdings
seien einige Architekturen mit Aktualisierungsproblemen in Hinblick auf den
Kernel und die glibc konfrontiert. Er legte auch offen, dass Sarge mit
#HK: key blocker besser?
KDE 3.2 veröffentlicht werde. Das größte blockierende Problem sei allerdings,
dass das buildd-Netzwerk noch nicht für testing-security angepasst sei.</p>

<p><strong>GNOME 2.8 für Sarge?</strong> Im Auftrag des GNOME-Teams wollte Jordi
Mallach <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/11/msg00067.html";>\
wissen</a>, ob er GNOME 2.8 nach Unstable hochladen dürfe, da es Anfang
September, als Sarge angeblich in Kürze eingefroren werden sollte, 
veröffentlicht worden sei. Da es viel getestet worden sei, und viele
Benutzer es bereits über die Experimental-Distribution verwendeten, scheine
es für die neue stabile Debian-Veröffentlichung geeignet. Das 
Veröffentlichungsteam hat seitdem dem Hochladen von GNOME 2.8 nach
Unstable <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/11/msg00107.html";>zugestimmt</a>,
das damit in Teilen oder als Ganzes ebenfalls nach Sarge migrieren könnte.

<p><strong>Herumwühlen im Installer.</strong> Ingrid Marson <a

href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00161.html";>antwortete</a>,
dass er plane zu überprüfen, ob er YaST2 für Debian paketieren könne. Er <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00166.html";>erwähnte</a>
auch eine YaST2-Oberfläche für debconf.
</p>

<p><strong>Hilfe für Original-Softwareautoren.</strong> Adrian von Bidder
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00181.html";>begann</a>
damit,
<a href="http://wiki.debian.net/SoftwarePackaging";>Hinweise</a> für die
ursprünglichen Autoren zu dokumentieren, die die Arbeit von Paketbetreuern
einfacher gestalten sollen.  Die Idee dahinter ist es nicht, die
Debian-Richtlinien zu duplizieren, sondern den ursprünglichen Entwicklern
eine Vorstellung davon zu vermitteln, wie ihre Software geschrieben werden
kann, so daß sie auch einfach paketiert werden kann.</p>

<p><strong>Einhängen von Wechselmedien.</strong> Martin Pitt <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/11/msg00201.html";>berichtete</a>
über die Idee der Quellautoren über die automatisierte USB/FireWire 
Geräte-Handhabung. Da er davon nicht überzeugt war, habe er <code>pmount</code>
entwickelt, das von normalen Benutzern zum Einhängen von Wechselmedien
#HK: to propagate habe ich hier mit einbringen übersetzt
ausgeführt werden könne. Er würde diesen Ansatz gerne in Debian einbringen.
</p>

<p><strong>PHP-Beschleuniger nicht verteilbar?</strong> Andres Solomon
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/11/msg00078.html";>bemerkte</a>,
dass turck-mmcache, ein Vorkompilierer und Zwischenspeicher, der PHP-Skripte
performanter laufen lässt, zwar unter der GNU GPL steht, aber gegen PHP4 linkt,
dessen Lizenz zur GNU GPL inkompatibel ist.  Da dies bedeutet, dass das Paket
nicht von Debian vertrieben werden kann,
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/11/msg00090.html";>bemüht</a>
sich ein interessierter Benutzer um eine Lizenzänderung.</p>

<p><strong>Aktualisierungen zur Systemsicherheit.</strong> Die alte Leier!

<p><strong>Verwaiste Pakete.</strong> 2 Pakete wurde diese Woche aufgegeben
und benötigt einen neuen Betreuer. Damit gibt es insgesamt 221 verwaiste
Pakete. Vielen Dank an die bisherigen Betreuer, die ihre Zeit für alle zur
Verfügung gestellt und damit das Konzept »Freie Software« unterstützt haben.
