During a rebuild of all packages in the archive using a preliminary
version of gettext 0.26, at least 32 packages failed to build.
The build logs are in the "build-logs" directory,
and a dd-list is available in the file "dd-list.txt".
Source and prebuilt packages for amd64 and arm64 for
this preliminary gettext 0.26 are available using this
file as /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gettext.sources
Types: deb deb-src

Suites: unreleased
Components: main

(provided the debian-keyring package is installed)
The packaging itself is still here as a work in progress:

The archive rebuild was done using a modified autoconf incorporating
patches from Bruno Haible so that it's more gettext-friendly.
Without those autoconf patches, around 50 more packages
would also fail to build. Details about that here:
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gettext/2025-06/msg00009.html
where the author also split the build logs I provided into different
failure categories.
Note: The modified autoconf is also temporarily provided in the
package repository at people.debian.org above. The new gettext
packages and the modified autoconf should be used together.
I want this transition to be as smooth as possible, so I expect the following things
to happen before I can upload gettext 0.26 for unstable:
- Report the failing packages as severity:normal with a reference to this page
- If possible, provide patches for all packages
- Wait until we have fixes for all packages
- Wait until a new autoconf is released with the required patches
- Upload gettext for experimental
- Raise bugs to important
- Wait until only a few packages are unfixed

Known problems:
gettext 0.26 FTBFS with glibc 2.43 currently in experimental
I have yet to see if gettext 1.0 fixes this or not.
Alternatively, it would be possible to switch to 0.26.1 if they
make a point release fixing the glibc issues.
