Hallo,
wie üblich anbei die Vorschau für die deutsche DWN 2005/08. Bitte
Korrekturen bis 16:00 zu mir oder ins Alioth CVS, danach dann ins
Debian CVS.
Mein Job hier in der Uni läuft aus. Im März (außer der CeBIT-Woche)
werde ich voraussichtlich die DWN noch machen können, ggf. auch noch
im April. u.U. aber nicht mehr so zeitnah. Daher wäre es sinnvoll,
wenn sich mehr Leute beteiligten. Am einfachsten geht das über ein
Alioth-Konto. Bitte zum dwn-trans-Projekt hinzufügen lassen.
Ich übersetze i.d.R. die Artikel sequentiell von oben nach unten im
Laufe des Dienstags, manchmal fange ich auch schon Montags an. Es wäre
nett, wenn der oder die Andere im Laufe des Dienstags sich dann einen die
teilübersetzte Version auschecken würden, und Artikel mitübersetzen
würden, am besten einen nach dem anderen und von unten nach oben. Wenn
die übersetzte Version gleich nach der Übersetzung eingecheckt wird,
ist auch die Gefahr von Doppelübersetzungen gemieden.
Wie ich später bei den DWN-Übersetzungen mitwirken kann, weiß ich noch
nicht.
Alternativ wird die deutsche Übersetzung ansonsten erst mal wieder
verwaisen. (Je nachdem, im Laufe des April/Mai).
Wenn sich in unserer Runde keiner findet, werde ich das
voraussichtlich nochmal auf die debian-i18n-Liste schicken.

<p>Welcome to this year's 8th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community. Manoj Srivastava <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/02/msg00006.html";>\
announced</a> that only one week is left for nominations for the upcoming
project leader <a href="$(HOME)/vote/2005/vote_001">elections</a>. In order
to achieve international standards recognition, the <a
href="http://www.linuxbase.org/";>LSB</a> has been <a
href="http://linux.slashdot.org/linux/05/01/16/0232222.shtml";>submitted</a> to
the ISO/IEEE.</p>
<p><strong>Debconf Template Translation.</strong> Christian Perrier <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2005/02/msg00038.html";>gave</a> an
update on the status of debconf translations in Debian. Most debconf
templates are now handled through <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/po-debconf";>po-debconf</a>, which makes it
much easier to handle translations. There are only 102 packages left which are
not using this utility. He plans to start uploading non-maintainer versions of
these with translation support enabled. Lucas Wall <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/";>provided</a> a status page for
those packages.</p>
<p><strong>Moria Author found.</strong> Robert Koeneke, the original author of
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/moria";>Moria</a> (a rogue-like game) <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00806.html";>contacted</a>
debian-devel and was amazed to see people were still playing the game he had
started developing 20 years ago. He is now looking into re-licensing it under
the <a href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU GPL</a>, which would
help move Moria, Angband and derivatives into the main archive.</p>
<p><strong>Roles and Responsibilities of the FTPmaster Team.</strong>
Matthew Garrett wrote an <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/02/msg00184.html";>explanation</a>
of what the ftpmasters do, the first in a series of articles about the
various teams in Debian. They manage the master archive,
add and remove packages from it, and work with the release
managers to ensure that files in the archive are in the correct place. The
ftpmaster team wrote and maintain the scripts used to automate much of
this. They only worry about the master archive, the mirror
network is handled by the mirror team.</p>
<p><strong>Broken Dependencies in Unstable.</strong> Dan Jacobson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00659.html";>wondered</a>
about the broken dependencies he notices every now and then. Colin Watson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00666.html";>answered</a>
that this is the problem that the testing distribution is intended to solve.
Goswin Brederlow <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00696.html";>explained</a>
that this is caused by strictly versioned dependencies to
<code>binary-all</code> packages.</p>
<p><strong>Archive Verification for Sarge?</strong> Andreas Barth <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/02/msg00097.html";>mentioned</a>
that there is a chance to get <a href="http://packages.debian.org/apt";>apt</a>
updated in sarge. Therefore a <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00646.html";>call for
help</a> was sent to developers who are interested in having automatic archive
verification in the upcoming release. To achieve this Florian Weimer <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00969.html";>created</a>
a detailed <a href="http://www.enyo.de/fw/software/apt-secure/";>status</a>
report.</p>
<p><strong>Automatic Dependency Calculation.</strong> Joel Aelwyn <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00855.html";>proposed</a>
to implement <code>dh_devincludes</code> that would calculate the proper
development library dependencies of a given package during the build stage.
He wondered if this needs special treatment for versioned dependencies and
whether other languages than C should be supported.</p>
<p><strong>Dropping Architectures?</strong> In response to build failures on
some architectures due to missing disk space it was <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00907.html";>quickly</a>
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00992.html";>\
suggested</a> to drop some architectures from the release. Goswin Brederlow
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00994.html";>\
asserted</a> that several bugs have been found while porting which improves
the software and Steve Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00995.html";>explained</a>
this in detail and asked where exactly Debian wasted time.</p>
<p><strong>New mplayer for Debian.</strong> Andrea Mennucc <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00175.html";>\
announced</a> that has uploaded new <code>mplayer</code> <a
href="http://tonelli.sns.it/pub/mplayer/sarge";>packages</a> that should comply
with Debian's needs. Upstream developers have resolved the remaining license
issues over the last months. The support for DeCSS has also been removed from
the Debian package because of legal problems.</p>
<p><strong>Potential License Problem with PHP.</strong> Martin 'Joey' Schulze
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00222.html";>\
quoted</a> parts of the PHP licenses and wondered if Debian was allowed to
name their packages as upstream did. MJ Ray <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00223.html";>pointed
out</a> that the relevant phrase has been strengthened for PHP4 and asserted
that it doesn't forbid Debian to continue naming the packages PHP. Steve
Langasek, however, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00224.html";>\
explained</a> that Debian does indeed not have permissions to do so.</p>
<p><strong>Debian Expos Visibility.</strong> The Debian project <a
href="$(HOME)/News/2005/20050218">announced</a> its presence at seven
conferences and exhibitions: <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0222-consol">CONSOL</a> in Mexico City (February
22nd - 25th), <a href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0226-fosdem">FOSDEM</a> in
Brussels, Belgium (February 26th - 27th), <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0228-aosss">Asia Open Source Software Symposium</a>
in Beijing, China (February 28th - March 4th), <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0305-linuxtag-chemnitz">Chemnitzer Linux-Tage</a> in
Chemnitz, Germany (March 5th - 6th), <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0310-cebit">CeBIT</a> in Hannover, Germany (March
10th - 16th), and <a href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0311-itlinuxdays">IT/Linux
Days</a> in Lörrach, Germany (March 11th - 14th). Several talks with
Debian affiliation will be held as well.</p>
<p><strong>Debian Package Status Graphs.</strong> Wouter Verhelst <a
href="http://www.grep.be/blog/2005/02/21/#bugs_packages_graphs";>pondered</a>
whether to continue generating package status graphics. There's a graph for
each developer email address that shows the evolution of the number of
packages, bugs, and the average number of bugs per package, e.g for the <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~wouter/graph/packages/packages@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx";>\
QA group</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Security Updates.</strong> You know the drill. Please make sure

<p><strong>Moria Autor gefunden.</strong> Robert Koeneke, der Originalautor von

<p><strong>Rollen und Verantwortlichkeiten des FTPmaster-Teams.</strong>
Matthew Garrett schrieb eine <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/02/msg00184.html";>Erklärung</a>
über die Tätigkeiten der ftpmaster, eine erste in einer Serie von Artikeln über
die verschiedenen Teams in Debian. Sie verwalteten das Hauptarchiv, fügten
Pakete hinzu und entfernten Pakete daraus, und arbeiteten mit den
Veröffentlichungsverwaltern um sicherzustellen, dass Dateien im Archiv am
richtigen Platz seien. Das ftpmaster-Team schrieb und betreut die Skripte die
das meiste hiervon automatisierten. Sie kümmerten sich nur um das Hauptarchiv,
das Spiegel-Netzwerk werde von Spiegel-Team gehandhabt.

<p><strong>Defekte Abhängigkeiten in Unstable.</strong> Dan Jacobson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00659.html";>wunderte</a>
sich, dass er ab zu zu defekte Abhängigkeiten bemerke. Colin Watson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00666.html";>antwortete</a>,
dass dies das Problem sei, das die Testing-Distribution lösen solle. Goswin
Brederlow <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00696.html";>erklärte</a>,

versionierten Abhängigkeiten benötige und ob andere Sprachen als C
unterstützt werden sollten.

<p><strong>Architekturen fallenlassen?</strong> Als Antwort auf die Bauversagen
auf einigen Architekturen aufgrund fehlenden Plattenplatzes wurde <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00907.html";>schnell</a>
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00992.html";>\
vorgeschlagen</a> einige Architekturen von der Veröffentlichung fallenzulassen.

hin</a>, dass der relevante Ausdruck für PHP4 verstärkt worden sei und
versicherte, dass diese Debian nicht verböten, die Pakete weiterhin PHP zu

allerdings, dass Debian tatsächlich keine Erlaubnis habe, dies zu tun.

<p><strong>Debian-Pakete Statusgraphen.</strong> Wouter Verhelst <a

ob er fortfahren solle, Paketstatusgraphen zu erstellen. Es gibt einen Graphen
für jeden E-Mail-Adresse eines Entwicklers, dass die Entwicklung der Anzahl
von Paketen, Fehlern, und die mittlere Anzahl von Fehlern pro Paket zeige,
beispielsweise für die <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~wouter/graph/packages/packages@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx";>\
QA-Gruppe</a>.</p>
