Debian Science Bo

DebConf 13, Le Camp de Vaumarcus, 12. August 2013

Inside the BoF some decision was made about citations which is summarised in the Wiki

There was some hint about the usage of DebTags via goplay / goscience. However, what was actually not mentioned inside the BoF but discussed later with Enrico Zini, is that DebTags and tasks (as used in Blends) are not competing techniques. DebTags are used to give some general categorisation regarding several aspects. A task is rather a specific assemble of packages that are needed for a certain task that may or may not have the same DebTags categories.

It was also discussed why we can not cover all needs we have in Blends by debtags and nobody even raised their hand to volunteer making sure we get some match between DebTags and Tasks which would enable some kind of matching in a sense that if a package fits per DebTag information it could be automatically taken over to the relevant task. As long as this does not happen the most simple way to get your package included into a task is naming the package and the task(s) it fits into on the Debian Science mailing list. We do the edit for you if you have no idea how to add the one liner per package into the tasks file.

As on any Debian Science meeting I asked for opinions / volunteers to create some offspring from the Debian Science umbrella to create some Blends like "Debian Astronomy", "Debian Electronics", "Debian Mathematics", "Debian Physics" etc. This would make these topics even more visible inside the Debian Universe and would enable a more fine grained structure for these new Blends. However, nobody volunteered to do the needed work for this.
