Vorschau DWN 2005/10

Moinmoin!

Heute mal wieder von mir die Vorschau der aktuellen DWN (2005/10).

Seht sie Euch bitte gewissenhaft durch, es bleibt für Korrekturen
allerdings nicht viel Zeit: bis heute 15:00 Uhr bitte entweder direkt
ins CVS oder an Helge (Reply-To gesetzt).

Übrigens: Helge wird kommende Woche für eine Übersetzung nicht zur
Verfügung stehen. Ich werde am Mittwoch (diesmal etwas früher)
übersetzen, was noch zu übersetzen sein sollte, notfalls natürlich
alles, aber falls jemand helfen oder prophylaktische
Schadensbegrenzung betrieben möchte... ihr wisst schon. :)

<p>Willkommen zu der 10. Ausgabe der DWN in diesem Jahr, dem wöchentlichen
Newsletter der Debian-Gemeinschaft.
Mehrere Entwickler nutzen die Wahlkampfphase der diesjährigen
Projektleiter-Wahl intensiv, indem sie sich auf die
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/";>debian-vote</a>-Liste
begeben und den Kandidaten Fragen stellen, auf dass diese ihre Position
klärend darlegen können. John Goerzen
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/03/msg00000.html";>\
gab bekannt</a>, dass <a href="http://www.spi-inc.org/";>SPI</a> nun auch
Spenden per Scheck aus Kanada
<a href="http://www.spi-inc.org/news/2005/20050218";>akzeptieren</a> könne.

<p><strong>Debian-Projektleiter-Wahlen.</strong> <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00119.html";>Anthony
Towns</a>, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00121.html";>Jonathan
Walther</a>, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00123.html";>Branden
Robinson</a> und <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00114.html";>Angus
Lees</a> haben sich ebenfalls für die kommende <a href="$(HOME)/vote/2005/vote_001">\
Wahl zum Projektleiter</a> selbst nominiert, so dass die Entwickler aus
sechs Kandidaten auswählen können. Die Wahlkampfphase wird bis zum 21. März
dauern. Helen Faulkner und Martin F. Krafft werden eine <a 
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/03/msg00071.html";>IRC-Debatte</a>
am 19. März leiten und <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00130.html";>riefen</a>
zu Vorschlägen für Fragen an die Kandidaten auf.
</p>

<p><strong>Die Debian-Veröffentlichungsfamilie.</strong> Jason Perlow <a
href="http://www.linuxmagazine.com/content/view/45/115/";>erklärte</a>, dass
Debian nicht nur eine Distribution, sondern eine Familie voneinander
abgeleiteter Distributionen sei. Er betonte, dass man Debian auf dem gleichen
System nicht zwei- oder mehrfach installieren müssen sollte. Er fuhr fort, 
mehrere vom reinen Debian abgeleitete Distributionen vorzustellen.
</p>

<p><strong>Bessere Unterstützung für Asiatisch.</strong> Zwei asiatische Firmen
<a href="http://www.valinux.co.jp/en/newsroom/2005/0301/01/";>gaben bekannt</a>,
gemeinsam eine universelle Debian GNU/Linux-Infrastruktur zu entwickeln und
aktiv den Einsatz von Debian-basierten Systemen im japanischen und chinesischen
Markt zu fördern. »In Asien, speziell in Japan und China erhält Open Source
riesige Werbung und wird nun gut angenommen«, sagte Tetsuya Ueda, Präsident und
Vorstandsvorsitzender von VA Linux in Tokio.  Osamu Aoki
(&#38738;&#26408; &#20462;) <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/03/msg00013.html";>ergänzte</a>, 
dass es derzeit nicht genug asiatische Entwickler gäbe, um Unterstützung für
Asiatisch für die verschiedenen Werkzeuge und Systeme zu entwickeln.
</p>

<p><strong>Treffen des Veröffentlichungsteams.</strong> Steve Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/03/msg00015.html";>\
berichtete</a>, dass die mit dem Veröffentlichungsprozess verbundenen Entwickler 
ein Treffen in Vancouver gehabt hatten, das dankenswerterweise von der NUUGF
gesponsert worden sei. Sie diskutierten die Notwendigkeit Sarge rauszubekommen
und begannen die Vorbereitungen für eine rechtzeitige Veröffentlichung von 
Etch.
</p>

<p><strong>Debian-Projektleiter-Team.</strong> Jeroen van Wolffelaar <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/03/msg00035.html";>\
gab</a> das Projekt Scud bekannt, das aus einer Anzahl Entwickler bestehe,
die vorhätten, den neuen Projektleiter nach der Wahl zu unterstützen. Die Idee
sei, das Debian-Projekt mit besseren Entscheidungen zu führen, als das eine
Einzelperson könne. Aufgrund der Verschiedenheit des Teams und der Widmung
zusammenzuarbeiten und mögliche Wege zu diskutieren, etwas in einer
konstruktiven Art zu erreichen, glauben sie in der Lage zu sein, Debian gut zu
führen.

<p><strong>APT-Migrationsstatusbericht.</strong> Florian Weimer
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00969.html";>reichte</a>
den ersten
<a href="http://www.enyo.de/fw/software/apt-secure/";>Statusbericht</a> zur
Migration von
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/experimental/base/apt";>APT 0.6</a>
# FE: »showstopper« MUSEN eher beibehalten
nach Sarge ein, welcher Showstopper und Aufgaben aufliste. Darüber hinaus
fragte er nach Freiwilligen, welche die neue Version installierten, ihr
Frontend ihrer Wahl neu kompilierten und über Erfolg oder Probleme
berichteten. Ein Neukompilieren sei aufgrund einer Änderung in der
exportierten Binärschnittstelle notwendig.
</p>

<p><strong>Automatische Changelog-Erstellung mit Subversion.</strong>
Torsten Landschoff
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01181.html";>\
fragte sich</a>, ob es ein Werkzeug gebe, welches automatisch die
<code>debian/changelog</code>-Datei aktualisiere, wenn eine Änderung
im Subversion-Depot eingepflegt werde. Joey Hess
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01258.html";>\
stellte</a> ein Skript bereit, das Teile der <code>changelog</code>-Datei
für den Log-Eintrag verwende.
</p>

<p><strong>Handhabung von Buildd-Problemen.</strong> Thomas Bushnell
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01198.html";>begann</a>
eine Diskussion über Bauprobleme im Buildd-Netzwerk in Bezug zum neuen
XFree86-Paket. Auch wenn auf einer Architektur das Problem lediglich in
fehlendem Festplattenplatz liege, so gestalte sich das Problem auf
anderen Architekturen schwieriger. Steve Langasek
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01260.html";>bat</a>
die Entwickler, in derartigen Fällen eine Mail an den Buildd-Administrator
und das Veröffentlichungsteam zu schicken.
</p>

<p><strong>Korrekte Enkodierung in Handbuchseiten.</strong> Eric Lavarde
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01320.html";>\
bemerkte</a>, dass einfache Anführungszeichen und Trennungsstriche in
Handbuchseiten nicht immer so aussähen, wie sie sollten. Darauf antwortend
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01321.html";>\
erklärte</a> Clint Adams, welche Zeichen für den Trennungsstrich und
welche für das Minus-Zeichen verwendet würden. Zusätzlich
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01322.html";>\
wies</a> Adeodato Simó auf eine Fehlerabhilfe hin, die im
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/groff";>groff</a>-Paket beschrieben
werde.
</p>

<p><strong>Aktualisierungen zur Systemsicherheit.</strong> Die alte Leier!

<p>Welcome to this year's 10th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  Several developers use the campaigning period of this
year's project leader election intensely on the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/";>debian-vote</a> list and ask the
candidates to clarify their position.  John Goerzen <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/03/msg00000.html";>\
announced</a> that <a href="http://www.spi-inc.org/";>SPI</a> can now <a
href="http://www.spi-inc.org/news/2005/20050218";>accept</a> donations by check
from Canada.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Project Leader Election.</strong> <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00119.html";>Anthony
Towns</a>, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00121.html";>Jonathan
Walther</a>, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00123.html";>Branden
Robinson</a> and <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00114.html";>Angus
Lees</a> have also nominated themselves for the upcoming <a
href="$(HOME)/vote/2005/vote_001">project leader election</a>, so that the
developers can choose among six candidates.  The campaigning period
will last until March 21st.  Helen Faulkner and
Martin F. Krafft will conduct an <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/03/msg00071.html";>IRC
debate</a> on March 19th and <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/02/msg00130.html";>called</a>
for suggestions for questions to be put to the candidates.</p>

<p><strong>The Debian Release Family.</strong> Jason Perlow <a
href="http://www.linuxmagazine.com/content/view/45/115/";>explained</a> that
Debian is not only one distribution but a family of derived distributions.  He
emphasised that one should not have to install Debian on the same system twice
or more often.  He continued to introduce several distributions that are
derived from pure Debian.</p>

<p><strong>Better Asian Support.</strong> Two Asian companies <a
href="http://www.valinux.co.jp/en/newsroom/2005/0301/01/";>announced</a> to
jointly develop a universal Debian GNU/Linux infrastructure and actively
promote the adoption of Debian-based systems in both the Japan and China
markets.  "In Asia, especially in Japan and China, Open Source is getting huge
publicity and is now well-received," said Tetsuya Ueda, President and CEO of
VA Linux in Tokyo.  Osamu Aoki (&#38738;&#26408; &#20462;)
 <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/03/msg00013.html";>added</a>
that there are currently not enough Asian developers to develop Asian support
for the various tools and systems.</p>

<p><strong>Release Team Meeting.</strong> Steve Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/03/msg00015.html";>\
reported</a> that developers affiliated with the release process have had a
meeting in Vancouver, thankfully sponsored by NUUGF.  They discussed the needs
to get sarge out the door, and began preparations for a timely release of
etch.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Project Leader Team.</strong> Jeroen van Wolffelaar <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/03/msg00035.html";>\
announced</a> the project Scud that consists of a number of developers who
intend to support the new project leader after the election.  The idea is to
lead the Debian project with better decisions than a single individual could
do.  Due to the diversity of the team, but at the same time, the commitment to
cooperate and discuss possible ways of achieving something in a constructive
manner they believe to be able to lead Debian well.</p>

<p><strong>APT Migration Status Report.</strong> Florian Weimer <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg00969.html";>sent</a> in
the first <a href="http://www.enyo.de/fw/software/apt-secure/";>status
report</a> covering the migration of <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/experimental/base/apt";>APT 0.6</a> into sarge
which lists showstoppers and tasks.  He also asked for volunteers to install
the new version, recompile their favourite frontend and report success and
problems.  Recompilation is required due to a change in the exported binary
interface.</p>

<p><strong>Automatic Changelog Generation with Subversion.</strong> Torsten
Landschoff <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01181.html";>wondered</a>
if there was a tool that could automatically update the <code>\
debian/changelog</code> file when a change is made to the Subversion
repository.  Joey Hess <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01258.html";>provided</a>
a script that will use parts of the <code>changelog</code> file for the log
message.</p>

<p><strong>Handling Buildd Problems.</strong> Thomas Bushnell <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01198.html";>started</a>
a discussion about build problems with the buildd network with regards to the
new XFree86 package.  While on one architecture the problem is just missing
disk space, the problem on other architectures is more difficult.  Steve
Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01260.html";>asked</a>
the developers to send a mail to the buildd admin and the release team in such
cases.</p>

<p><strong>Proper Encoding in Manual Pages.</strong> Eric Lavarde <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01320.html";>noticed</a>
that single quotes and hyphens in manual pages don't always look like they
should.  In a response, Clint Adams <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01321.html";>explained</a>
which characters to use for a hyphen and for a minus sign.  Additionally,
Adeodato Simó <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01322.html";>pointed
out</a> a workaround described in the <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/groff";>groff</a> package.</p>
