<p>Willkommen zu der 11. Ausgabe der DWN in diesem Jahr, dem wöchentlichen
Newsletter der Debian-Gemeinschaft.  Sean Finney
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/03/msg00150.html";>\
lud</a> die erste Version des
<a href="http://people.debian.org/~seanius/policy/examples/";>\
dbconfig-common</a>-Pakets hoch, welches eine allgemeine Schnittstelle
zur Datenbankpflege implementiere und von anderen Paketen verwendet
werden solle.
</p>

# FE: Mir fällt zu CfP derzeit nichts gutes ein...
<p><strong>DebConf 5 Call for Papers.</strong> Am 15. März endet der
<a href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/news/call_for_papers";>Call for
Papers</a> für <a href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/";>DebConf 5</a>.
Die Liste der
<a href="http://comas.linux-aktivaattori.org/debconf5/general/proposals";>\
Vorschläge</a> enthalte mehr als 20 Punkte. Das Review-Komitee werde sich
zum 1. April entscheiden. Die Debian-Konferenz ist das wichtigste Ereignis,
bei welchem sich Debian-Entwickler und interessierte Anwender treffen, um
das Debian-Projekt und seine Entwicklung zu besprechen. Dieses Jahr wird
DebConf in
<a href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/about/helsinki";>Helsinki</a>,
<a href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/about/finland";>Finnland</a>,
stattfinden.
</p>

<p><strong>Debian-Logo-Lizenz.</strong> Francesco Poli
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00234.html";>\
fragte sich</a>, ob es in jüngster Zeit irgendwelche Fortschritte dabei
gegeben habe, die Lizenz der Debian-\
<a href="$(HOME)/logos/">Logos</a> zu einer freien zu ändern. Martin Michlmayr
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00241.html";>\
antwortete</a>, dass der Rechtsbeirat von SPI eine Übereinkunft zur Zuweisung
des Copyrights verfasst habe und der Künstler des Logos einer Unterzeichnung
und somit einer Übertragung der Besitzansprüche an SPI zugestimmt habe.
Sobald dies geschehen sei, könne die Lizenz geändert werden.

<p><strong>Automatische Einbindung von USB-Speichermedien.</strong>
Martin Dickopp
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2004/10/msg00308.html";>\
entwickelte</a> ein Skript, welches USB-Massenspeicher-Geräte automatisch
einhängt, sobald sie eingesteckt werden, und sie aushängt, sobald sie
entfernt werden. Er
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/03/msg00271.html";>\
erwähnte</a> jedoch, dass eine ähnliche Funktionalität im 
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/pmount";>pmount</a>-Paket enthalten sei,
wenn es zusammen mit dem
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/hal";>hal</a>-Gerätemanager als Teil des
Desktops verwendet werde.
</p>

<p><strong>Lizenz für Dokumentation?</strong> Daniel Carrera
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/03/msg00241.html";>\
fragte sich</a>, welche Lizenz er für Dokumentation nutzen solle, und
brachte die Idee vor, diese gemeinsam unter 
<a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/";>Creative Commons
Attribution</a> und <a href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU
GPL</a> zu lizenzieren. Gervase Markham
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/03/msg00254.html";>bat</a>
darum, nicht die GPL für Dokumentation zu nutzen, da sie dafür nicht
entwickelt worden sei, gestand jedoch ein, dass es keine auf Dokumentation
bezogene Lizenz gebe, die das Debian-Projekt als frei erachte.
</p>

<p><strong>Schlüsselverwaltung auf einem USB-Stick.</strong> David
Härdeman
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/03/msg00281.html";>\
dachte</a> über die beste Methode nach, private Schlüssel (für SSH und
GnuPG) auf einem USB-Speichergerät zu verwalten. Die Schlüssel sollten
automatisch verfügbar sein, sobald der Stick eingebunden wird. Zu guter
Letzt verbesserte er ein
<a href="http://www.seanius.net/linux/keyloader/usb-storage";>Skript</a>
von Sean Finney, welches ein Loopback-Dateisystem auf einem VFAT-System
verwendet.
</p>

<p><strong>Diskussionsetikette zur Wahl.</strong> Angesichts der hohen
Anzahl von Kandidaten zur Wahl des Projektleiters
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/03/msg00010.html";>bat</a>
Jeroen van Wolffelaar alle Teilnehmer darum, ihre Mails kurz und aufs Thema
bezogen zu halten, beantworteten Text bei einer Antwort entsprechend zu
kürzen, das Subject anzupassen, wenn sich der Inhalt ändere, und höflich
zu sein. Nicht themenbezogene Anmerkungen würden besser auf die
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-curiosa/";>debian-curiosa</a>-Liste
passen.
</p>

<p><strong>Sarge-Veröffentlichungsstatus.</strong> Steve Langasek reichte
einen neuen
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/03/msg00012.html";>\
Statusbericht</a> zur Veröffentlichung von Sarge ein. Eine Modifizierung des
SSH-Servers auf dem wanna-build-Host und auf allen Buildds werde benötigt,
um die durch die neue <code>testing-security</code>-Queue hervorgerufene
Last abzufedern. Nach Einrichten dieser Änderung werde das Archiv eingefroren
und zugleich der dritte Veröffentlichungskandidat des 
<a href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">Debian-Installers</a> herausgegeben.
</p>

<p><strong>Vorschlag zur Verarbeitung der NEW-Queue.</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/random_idea_re_new_queue-2005-03-02-21-12.html";>\
schlug vor</a>, die Bürde der Verarbeitung der neuen Pakete unter mehreren
Leuten, und nicht nur den FTP-Mastern, aufzuteilen. Die Pakete könnten zu einer
alternativen öffentlichen NEW-Queue hochgeladen werden, so dass mehr Entwickler
die Pakete begutachten könnten und eine re-signierte <code>.changes</code>-\
Datei an die Hauptqueue schicken könnten. Sobald ein Paket von genug Entwicklern
befürwortet worden sei, könnte es automatischer von den Archivverwaltern 
verarbeitet werden.
</p>

<p><strong>IRC-Debatte zu Projektleiter-Wahlen.</strong> Martin F. Krafft <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/03/msg00507.html";>gab bekannt</a>,
dass die IRC-Debatte für die kommende Projektleiterwahl am Mittwoch, den
16.März, um 6:00 UTC im Freenode IRC-Netzwerk (irc.debian.org) stattfinden
werde. Es werden vier IRC-Kanäle verwendet, deren Protokolle nach der Debatte
verfügbar gemacht würden.
</p>

<p><strong>Post-Sarge Veröffentlichungspläne.</strong> Steve Langasek gab die <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/03/msg00012.html";>\
Pläne</a> für die Veröffentlichung nach Sarge bekannt, die das Teilen des
Debian-Archivs in reguläre und zweitklassige-Komponenten mit weniger häufig
benutzten Architekturen beinhalten. Dies sollte beim Spiegeln benötigten Platz
und die Zeit, um Testing in Form zu halten, reduzieren, da es weniger 
Architekturen beinhalte.
</p>

<p><strong>Asiatische Debian-Mini-Conf 2005.</strong> Die erste <a
href="http://debian.org.cn/events/admc2005/";>Asiatische Debian Mini-Conf</a>
wurde als erfolgreicher Teil des <a href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0228-aosss">\
5. Asiatischen Open-Source-Software-Symposiums</a> in Peking, China, gehalten.
Sun Wah Linux sponserte freundlicherweise das Treffen und lud mehrere Entwickler
aus der ganzen Welt ein um teilzunehmen und Vorträge zu halten. Das <a
href="http://freelinuxer.net/~carlos/2005/03/asian-debian-mini-conf.html";>\
Treffen</a> half bei der Integration der verschiedenen Debian-Gemeinschaften in
China, Taiwan und Hong Kong, wie die Wiederauferstehung des chinesischen 
Debian-Kanals \#debian-zh und einige Kooperation in der Übersetzungsarbeit.
</p>

<p><strong>Aktualisierungen zur Systemsicherheit.</strong> Die alte Leier!

<p>Welcome to this year's 11th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  Sean Finney <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/03/msg00150.html";>\
uploaded</a> the first version of the <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~seanius/policy/examples/";>\
dbconfig-common</a> package which implements a general database maintenance
interface and is intended to be used by other packages.</p>

<p><strong>DebConf 5 Call for Papers.</strong> On the 15th of March the <a
href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/news/call_for_papers";>Call for
Papers</a> for <a href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/";>DebConf 5</a> will
end.  The list of <a
href="http://comas.linux-aktivaattori.org/debconf5/general/proposals";>\
proposal</a> contains more than 20 items.  The review committee will make its
decision by April 1st. The Debian conference is most important event where
Debian developers and interested users meet to discuss about the Debian
project and its development.  This year DebConf will take place in <a
href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/about/helsinki";>Helsinki</a>, <a
href="http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/about/finland";>Finland</a>.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Logo License.</strong> Francesco Poli <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00234.html";>wondered</a>
if there has been any progress recently to change the license of Debian <a
href="$(HOME)/logos/">logos</a> to a free one.  Martin Michlmayr <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/02/msg00241.html";>answered</a>
that SPI's legal council has written a copyright assignment agreement and the
artist of the logo has agreed to sign it and thereby hand ownership over to
SPI.  Once this is done, the license can be changed.</p>

<p><strong>Automatic Integration of USB Storage.</strong> Martin Dickopp has
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2004/10/msg00308.html";>\
developed</a> a script that automatically mounts USB mass storage devices when
they are plugged in, and unmounts them when they are removed.  He <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/03/msg00271.html";>mentioned</a>
that similar functionality is included in the <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/pmount";>pmount</a> package when it is used as
part of the desktop together with the <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/hal";>hal</a> device manager, though.</p>

<p><strong>License for Documentation?</strong> Daniel Carrera <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/03/msg00241.html";>wondered</a>
which license he should use for documentation and came up with the idea to
co-license it with the <a
href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/";>Creative Commons
Attribution</a> and <a href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU
GPL</a>.  Gervase Markham <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/03/msg00254.html";>asked</a>
not to use the GPL for documentation as it wasn't designed for such but
admitted that there is no documentation-specific license that is considered
free by the Debian project.</p>

<p><strong>Key Management on USB Stick.</strong> David H&auml;rdeman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/03/msg00281.html";>pondered</a>
about the best method to manage private keys (for SSH and GnuPG) on a USB
storage device.  The keys should be automatically available when the key is
inserted.  At the end he improved a <a
href="http://www.seanius.net/linux/keyloader/usb-storage";>script</a> by Sean
Finney that uses a VFAT system with a loopback filesystem on top.</p>

<p><strong>Election Discussion Etiquette.</strong> In light of the high number
of project leader candidates Jeroen van Wolffelaar <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/03/msg00010.html";>asked</a> all
participants to keep their mails brief, stay on-topic, trim the replied text
in the response, alter the subject when the content is changed and to be
polite.  Off-topic remarks may better be suited on the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-curiosa/";>debian-curiosa</a> list.</p>

<p><strong>Sarge Release Status.</strong> Steve Langasek sent in a new <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/03/msg00012.html";>\
status report</a> on the sarge release.  A modification on the SSH server on
the wanna-build host and on all buildds is required to cushion the load evoked
by the new <code>testing-security</code> queue.  After this change is in place
the archive will be frozen in connection with the third release candidate of
the <a href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">debian-installer</a>.</p>

<p><strong>NEW Queue Processing Proposal.</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/random_idea_re_new_queue-2005-03-02-21-12.html";>\
proposed</a> to share the burden of processing the queue of new packages among
more people and not only the ftpmasters.  Packages could be uploaded to an
alternative public new queue so that more developers could review the packages
and send back a re-signed <code>.changes</code> file to the main queue.  Once
a package was advocated by enough developers it could be processed more
automatically by the archive maintainers.</p>

<p><strong>Project Leader Election IRC Debate.</strong> Martin F. Krafft <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/03/msg00507.html";>announced</a>
that the IRC debate for the upcoming project leader election will take place
on Wednesday, March 16th, at 06:00 UTC on the Freenode IRC network
(irc.debian.org).  It will use four IRC channels, whose logs are going to be
made available after the debate.</p>

<p><strong>Post-Sarge Release Plans.</strong> Steve Langasek announced <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/03/msg00012.html";>\
plans</a> for the release after sarge that includes splitting the Debian
archive into a regular and a second class component with less frequently used
architectures.  This should reduce the mirror space and the time required for
keeping testing in shape since it will contain lesser architectures.</p>

<p><strong>Asia Debian Mini-Conf 2005.</strong> The first <a
href="http://debian.org.cn/events/admc2005/";>Asia Debian Mini-Conf</a> was
successfully held as a part of the <a href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0228-aosss">\
5th Asia Open Source Software Symposium</a> in Beijing, China.  Sun Wah Linux
kindly sponsored the meeting and invited several developers from around the
world to attend and give talks.  The <a
href="http://freelinuxer.net/~carlos/2005/03/asian-debian-mini-conf.html";>\
meeting</a> also helped with integration among Debian communities in China,
Taiwan and Hong Kong, such as the resurrection of the Chinese Debian channel
\#debian-zh and some cooperation in translation work.</p>

<p><strong>Security Updates.</strong> You know the drill.  Please make sure
