Anbei die derzeit im Debian-CVS aktuelle Version des englischsprachigen
Originals und der derzeitige Stand der Übersetzung aus dem Alioth-CVS.

Korrekturvorschläge (diff -u) bitte bis ca. 16 Uhr MESZ am morgigen
Mittwoch, den 18. Mai, an mich oder direkt ins Alioth-CVS.
Sobald ich mit dem Abarbeiten der Korrekturvorschläge durch bin, werde
ich Gerfried eine kurze Statusmeldung senden, auf dass er den Versand
des Newsletters ankurbeln kann, und die jüngste Version ins Debian-CVS
einpflegen. Alles, was danach noch eintreffen mag, werde ich dann
direkt ins Debian-CVS einarbeiten, aber es wird wohl nicht mehr für
den Versand berücksichtigt werden können.

<p>Welcome to this year's 20th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  A <a
href="http://opensource.mit.edu/papers/dafermoslinux.pdf";>paper</a> from the
MIT talks about the development process of Free Software, which is the basis
for an <a href="http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20050508021510445";>\
article</a> on Groklaw that emphasises on the importance of Free Software due
to its educational potential.  Looking at the traffic on the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/";>debian-release</a> list it
becomes apparent that Debian sarge will be released soon.</p>

<p><strong>Inconsistent Password Authentication.</strong> Shaul Karl <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00423.html";>wondered</a>
about the difference between a disabled login and a disabled password.  Marc
Haber <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00689.html";>\
explained</a> how this works with ssh.  Russ Allbery added some <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00693.html";>notes</a>
about the <code>UsePam</code> option.  Brian May <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00741.html";>reported</a>
even more oddities.</p>

<p><strong>Mixing GNU GPL and FDL Content.</strong> Gueven Bay <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/04/msg00519.html";>wondered</a>
if he can mix content licensed under the <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html";>GNU FDL</a> and the <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU GPL</a>.  Anthony DeRobertis
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/04/msg00520.html";>\
emphasised</a> that both licenses are incompatible.  One would have to get
permission from the copyright holders to distribute their work under a
different license.</p>

<p><strong>Alioth on the Move.</strong> Wichert Akkerman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00008.html";>\
announced</a> that <a href="http://alioth.debian.org/";>Alioth</a>, Debian's
GForge incarnation, will move to a new server.  Now that the <a
href="$(HOME)/pors/amd64/">AMD64</a> archive has been <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00004.html";>\
moved</a> to its own server, there will be sufficient disk space on the new
Alioth host.  After the move, source code and web pages will be on the same
host again and password changes won't need a day to take effect.</p>

<p><strong>Upgrade Tests.</strong> Steve Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00010.html";>\
called</a> for upgrade testers.  It is recommended to read the <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/sarge/releasenotes">release notes</a> before upgrading,
and in particular Chapter 4, "Upgrades from previous releases".  Andreas Barth
has prepared an upgrade report <a
href="http://release.debian.org/upgrade-report.html";>template</a> to help when
reporting problems with the upgrades.  If you do run into problems please fill

<p><strong>Debian is different.</strong> Anthony Awtrey took a <a
href="http://www.awtrey.com/tony/foss/debianisdifferent.php";>look</a> at how
the Debian distribution is developed.  He noted that the build and
distribution processes of commercial distributions are tightly locked up while
the development in Debian is open and freely accessible.  He mentioned that
for some organisations it is vital that the processes is visible, available
and extensible.</p>

<p><strong>Automatic Package Testing.</strong> Lars Wirzenius <a
href="http://liw.iki.fi/liw/log/2005-05.html#20050507b";>wrote</a> down his
thoughts about automatic testing of Debian packages.  These include testing of
upstream functionality with unit tests and the like which should be added to
the upstream source.  Testing of Debian packaging functionality should be done
in tools like <a href="http://packages.debian.org/linda";>linda</a> and <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/lintian";>lintian</a>.  For installation and
removal tests a new tool would be needed.</p>

<p><strong>Call for a Free BIOS.</strong> Richard Stallman <a
href="http://www.fsf.org/campaigns/free-bios.html";>called</a> for support and
help freeing the computer BIOS.  Formerly, it was impossible to replace and
ran from read-only memory, but is stored in non-volatile writable memory these
days.  He asked to purchase CPU chips from manufacturers that support a free
BIOS.  In light of digital restriction management it becomes even more
important to be able to <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/can-you-trust.html";>trust</a> the
computer.</p>

<p><strong>Security Updates.</strong> You know the drill.  Please make sure
that you update your systems if you have any of these packages installed.</p>

<p>Willkommen zu der 20. Ausgabe der DWN in diesem Jahr, dem wöchentlichen
Newsletter der Debian-Gemeinschaft. Es wurde ein <a
href="http://opensource.mit.edu/papers/dafermoslinux.pdf";>Bericht</a> von den
MIT-Gesprächen über den Entwicklungsprozess Freier Software veröffentlicht,
der die Grundlage für einen
<a href="http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20050508021510445";>\
Artikel</a> auf Groklaw ist, in dem die Wichtigkeit von Freier Software aufgrund
des Entwicklungspotenzials betont wird. An dem Mailaufkommen auf der <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/";>debian-release</a>-Mailingliste
wird deutlich, dass Debian Sarge bald veröffentlicht wird.</p>

<p><strong>Inkonsistente Passwort-Authentifizierung.</strong> Shaul Karl <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00423.html";>wunderte sich</a>
über den Unterschied zwischen einem deaktivierten Benutzer-Konto und einem
deaktivierten Passwort. Marc
Haber <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00689.html";>\
erklärte</a>, wie dies bei ssh funktioniere. Russ Allbery steuerte einige <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00693.html";>Hinweise</a>
über die <code>UsePam</code>-Option bei. Brian May <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00741.html";>berichtete</a>
sogar von noch mehr Merkwürdigkeiten.</p>

<p><strong>GNU GPL- und GFDL-Inhalte mischen.</strong> Gueven Bay <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/04/msg00519.html";>fragte sich</a>,
ob er Inhalte mischen könne, die unter der <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html";>GNU FDL</a> und der <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU GPL</a> lizenziert seien.
Anthony DeRobertis
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/04/msg00520.html";>\
verdeutlichte</a>, dass die beiden Lizenzen nicht kompatibel seien. Man müsse die
Genehmigung der Rechteinhaber einholen, um ihre Arbeit unter einer anderen Lizenz
zu veröffentlichen.</p>

<p><strong>Alioth unterwegs.</strong> Wichert Akkerman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00008.html";>\
verkündete</a>, dass <a href="http://alioth.debian.org/";>Alioth</a>, Debians
Inkarnation von GForge, auf einen neuen Server umziehen werde. Nachdem das <a
href="$(HOME)/pors/amd64/">AMD64</a>-Archiv nun auf einen eigenen Server <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00004.html";>\
umgezogen</a> sei, werde genügend Plattenplatz auf dem neuen Alioth-Rechner
zur Verfügung stehen. Nach dem Umzug werden Quellcode und Webseiten wieder
auf dem gleichen Rechner liegen und Passwortänderungen benötigen nicht
mehr einen Tag, bis sie wirksam werden.</p>

<p><strong>Upgrade-Tests.</strong> Steve Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00010.html";>\
rief</a> dazu auf, Sarge-Upgrades zu testen.  Es empfiehlt sich, vor einem
Upgrade die <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/sarge/releasenotes">Release-Informationen</a> zu
lesen, speziell das Kapitel 4, »Upgrades von vorherigen Versionen«.
Andreas Barth hat einen Upgrade-Berichts-<a
href="http://release.debian.org/upgrade-report.html";>Vordruck</a> aufgesetzt,
der dabei helfen soll, Probleme mit dem Upgrade zu berichten. Falls Sie
Probleme bekommen sollten, füllen Sie ihn bitte aus und senden ihn an

<p><strong>Debian ist anders.</strong> Anthony Awtrey <a
href="http://www.awtrey.com/tony/foss/debianisdifferent.php";>betrachtete</a>,
wie die Debian-Distribution entwickelt wird. Ihm fiel auf, dass der
Erstellungs- und Verteilungsprozess von kommerziellen Distributionen straff
reglementiert sei, während die Entwicklung bei Debian offen und frei zugänglich
wäre. Er erwähnte weiter, für gewisse Organisationen sei es entscheidend, dass
der Prozess einsehbar, greifbar und flexibel sei.</p>
#HW:  andere Vorschläge für "visible, available and extensible"?

<p><strong>Automatischer Paket-Test.</strong> Lars Wirzenius <a
href="http://liw.iki.fi/liw/log/2005-05.html#20050507b";>schrieb</a> seine Gedanken
über das automatische Testen von Debian-Paketen nieder. Dies beinhalte das Überprüfen
von Upstream-Funktionalität mit Bauteiltests und ähnlichem, was zum
Upstream-Quellcode hinzugefügt werden sollte. Das Testen der Debian-Paket-Funktionalität
sollte mit Werkzeugen wie <a href="http://packages.debian.org/linda";>linda</a> und <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/lintian";>lintian</a> erledigt werden. Für
Installations- und Deinstallationstests würde dann noch ein weiteres Hilfsprogramm
benötigt.</p>

<p><strong>Der Ruf nach einem freien BIOS.</strong> Richard Stallman <a
href="http://www.fsf.org/campaigns/free-bios.html";>rief</a> zu Unterstützung und
Mithilfe bei der Befreiung des Computer-BIOS' auf. Früher war es nicht möglich,
das BIOS zu verändern, und es lief auf einem Nur-Lese-Speicher, heute jedoch sei
es in nichtflüchtigem, beschreibbaren Speicher abgelegt. Er forderte dazu auf,
CPU-Chips von Herstellern zu kaufen, die ein freies BIOS unterstützten. In
Zeiten vom Digital Restriction Management würde es immer wichtiger, dass
man dem Computer <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/can-you-trust.html";>vertrauen</a> könne.</p>

<p><strong>Aktualisierungen zur Systemsicherheit.</strong> Die alte Leier!
