Anbei die derzeit im Debian-CVS aktuelle Version des englischsprachigen
Originals und der derzeitige Stand der Übersetzung aus dem Alioth-CVS.

Korrekturvorschläge (diff -u) bitte bis ca. 23 Uhr MESZ am heutigen
Mittwoch, den 25. Mai, an mich oder direkt ins Alioth-CVS.
Sobald ich mit dem Abarbeiten der Korrekturvorschläge durch bin, werde
ich Gerfried eine kurze Statusmeldung senden, auf dass er den Versand
des Newsletters ankurbeln kann, und die jüngste Version ins Debian-CVS
einpflegen. Alles, was danach noch eintreffen mag, werde ich dann
direkt ins Debian-CVS einarbeiten, aber es wird wohl nicht mehr für
den Versand berücksichtigt werden können.

<p>Welcome to this year's 21st issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  A lot of activity has still been recorded on the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/";>debian-release</a> list in
order to fix the remaining <a
href="http://bugs.debian.org/release-critical/";>release-critical</a> bugs and
to get the translations into shape.  Matt Whipp <a
href="http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/69766/open-source-not-running-short-of-developers.html";>\
quoted</a> several people to counter the claim that Free Software is running
short of developers.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Desktop with 12 Watts.</strong> Silas Bennett wanted to run
a low-power desktop system and ended up using a <a
href="http://www.apple.com/macmini/";>Mac mini</a>.  He <a
href="http://www.home.earthlink.net/~silasb/macbat/";>described</a> that he had
removed the hard disk and CD-ROM drive to save power and space that he could
reuse with a battery pack, so that the system draws 12 watts from it.  He was
also delighted to see the sarge installer run flawlessly.</p>

<p><strong>Debian GNU/Hurd running GNOME and Qt.</strong> Michael Banck <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2005/05/msg00109.html";>managed</a> 
to get GNOME compile and run on GNU/Hurd, albeit with some caveats and loose
ends, and also took a <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~mbanck/media/hurd-gnome.png";>screenshot</a>.
Several packages had to be modified in order to make them build, so
that GNOME won't be uploaded for hurd-i386 soon, but the general issues
seem to have been solved.  In related news, Qt is <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2005/04/msg00082.html";>running</a>
fine on the Hurd as well, and volunteers are sought after for
porting KDE.</p>

<p><strong>Changes to the weekly WNPP Posting.</strong> Martin Michlmayr <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00012.html";>\
announced</a> that the weekly mail about work-needing and prospective <a
href="$HOME)/devel/wnpp/">packages</a> won't be sent to the announce list
anymore but to the dedicated <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-wnpp/";>\
debian-wnpp</a> list instead.  In addition to that, future mails will only
include new entries in order to have the mails be helpful again.</p>

<p><strong>Confusing Package Versions.</strong> Nico Golde <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01023.html";>noticed</a>
that the most recent version of <a href="http://packages.debian.org/unrar";>\
unrar</a> has a lower version number than the packages before.  Roberto
Sanchez <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01024.html";>\
explained</a> that the old package was non-free and has been replaced by a
free version with a lower version number.   Unfortunately it can't <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01029.html";>cope</a>
with current RAR 3.x archives.  The free version has since then been renamed
into <a href="http://packages.debian.org/unrar-free";>unrar-free</a> to avoid
confusion.</p>

<p><strong>Packaging Waste.</strong> Romain Beauxis wanted to <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00444.html";>package</a>
<a href="http://waste.sourceforge.net/";>waste</a> a collaboration tool for
small teams.  Mirco Bauer <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/05/msg00353.html";>noted</a>
that the authors considered this <a
href="http://www.nullsoft.com/free/waste/";>unauthorised software</a>.  It
seems that Nullsoft's parent company AOL didn't agree to the release, hence
the strong message.</p>

<p><strong>Last Update to Woody.</strong> Joey Schulze <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00013.html";>\
sent</a> in the <a href="http://people.debian.org/~joey/3.0r6/";>\
preparation</a> for the last update to Debian 3.0.  As usual, this mostly adds
recent security updates to the woody release.  He also <a
href="http://www.infodrom.org/~joey/log/?200505130653";>explained</a> that
there can't be another update after the release of sarge due to deficiencies
in the archive <a href="http://cvs.debian.org/dak/?cvsroot=dak";>suite</a>.</p>

<p><strong>Non-US being phased out.</strong> Frans Pop <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/05/msg01163.html";>proposed</a>
a paragraph about the end of the non-US archive to be added to the <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/sarge/releasenotes">release notes</a> since it is
dysfunctional and not needed anymore.  From the 29 <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/05/msg01354.html";>packages</a>
still included, only five haven't been able to be <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/05/msg01355.html";>moved</a>
into the main archive.</p>

<p><strong>Debian-Volatile Strategy.</strong> The volatile team <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00016.html";>\
pondered</a> to create a second <a href="http://volatile.debian.net/";>\
volatile</a> archive with less strict criteria.  This would help packages such
as <a href="http://packages.debian.org/gaim";>Gaim</a> that need to be updated
during the lifetime of sarge in order to support modified protocols.  They are
also looking for ways to announce updated packages.</p>

<p><strong>Security Updates.</strong> You know the drill.  Please make sure
that you update your systems if you have any of these packages installed.</p>

<p>Willkommen zu der 21. Ausgabe der DWN in diesem Jahr, dem wöchentlichen
Newsletter der Debian-Gemeinschaft. Immer noch konnte viel Aktivität auf der
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/";>debian-release</a>-List
festgestellt werden, um die verbleibenden <a
href="http://bugs.debian.org/release-critical/";>veröffentlichungskritischen</a>
Fehler zu korrigieren und die Übersetzungen in Form zu bringen. Matt Whipp <a
href="http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/69766/open-source-not-running-short-of-developers.html";>\
zitierte</a> mehrere Leute, um der Behauptung zu entgegnen, dass Freier Software
die Entwickler ausgingen.</p>

<p><strong>Debian-Arbeitsplatz mit 12 Watt.</strong> Silas Bennett wollte ein
energiesparendes Arbeitsplatzsystem verwenden und landete beim <a
href="http://www.apple.com/macmini/";>Mac mini</a>. Er <a
href="http://www.home.earthlink.net/~silasb/macbat/";>beschrieb</a>, dass er die
Festplatte und das CD-ROM-Laufwerk entfernt habe um Strom zu sparen und den
Platz für ein Batterie-Paket wiederzuverwenden, so dass das System davon 12
Watt ziehe. Er sei auch entzückt gewesen, den tadellosen Lauf des
Sarge-Installers zu beobachten.

<p><strong>GNOME und Qt laufen unter Debian GNU/Hurd.</strong> Michael Banck <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2005/05/msg00109.html";>gelang</a> 
es, GNOME auf GNU/Hurd zu kompilieren und laufen zu lassen, wenn auch mit
einigen Einschränkungen und offenen Punkten; er schoss ein <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~mbanck/media/hurd-gnome.png";>Bildschirmphoto</a>.
Etliche Pakete mussten modifiziert werden, um zu ermöglichen, dass sie bauten,
so dass GNOME in naher Zukunft wohl noch nicht für hurd-i386 hochgeladen werde,
aber die grundsätzlichen Probleme scheinen gelöst worden zu sein.
Entsprechende Meldungen berichteten, dass Qt ebenfalls gut auf Hurd
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2005/04/msg00082.html";>laufe</a>
und es werden Freiwillige gesucht, um KDE zu portieren.</p>

<p><strong>Änderungen am wöchentlichen WNPP-Posting.</strong> Martin Michlmayr <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00012.html";>\
gab bekannt</a>, dass die wöchentliche E-Mail betreffend Arbeit-bedürfende
und voraussichtliche <a href="$HOME)/devel/wnpp/">Pakete</a> nun nicht mehr
an die Ankündigungsliste sondern stattdessen an die speziell diesem gewidmetete
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-wnpp/";>debian-wnpp</a>-Liste gesendet
werde. Des weiteren werden zukünftige E-Mails nur noch neue Einträge aufnehmen,
auf dass die E-Mails wieder hilfreich sind.</p>

<p><strong>Verwirrende Paketversionen.</strong> Nico Golde <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01023.html";>bemerkte</a>,
dass die neueste Version von <a href="http://packages.debian.org/unrar";>\
unrar</a> eine kleinere Versionsnummer als die Pakete davor habe.  Roberto
Sanchez <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01024.html";>\
erklärte</a>, dass das alte Paket nicht-frei gewesen sei und durch eine
freie Version mit kleinerer Versionsnummer ersetzt worden sei. Leider
könne diese nicht mit aktuellen RAR-3.x-Archiven <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01029.html";>umgehen</a>.
Die freie Version ist seitdem zu
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/unrar-free";>unrar-free</a> umbenannt
worden, um Verwirrung zu vermeiden.</p>

<p><strong>Paketieren von Waste.</strong> Romain Beauxis wollte
<a href="http://waste.sourceforge.net/";>waste</a> <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00444.html";>paketieren</a>,
ein Werkzeug zur Zusammenarbeit kleiner Teams. Mirco Bauer <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/05/msg00353.html";>merkte an</a>,
dass die Autoren dies als <a
href="http://www.nullsoft.com/free/waste/";>unauthorisierte Software</a>
ansähen. Es scheint, als ob AOL, der Mutterkonzern von Nullsoft, dieser
Veröffentlichung nicht zustimme, was die deutliche Mitteilung erkläre.</p>

<p><strong>Letzte Aktualisierung von Woody.</strong> Joey Schulze <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/05/msg00013.html";>\
reichte</a> die <a href="http://people.debian.org/~joey/3.0r6/";>\
Vorbereitung</a> der letzten Aktualisierung von Debian 3.0 ein. Wie üblich
füge diese im Wesentlichen die jüngsten Sicherheitsaktualiserungen zur
Woody-Veröffentlichung hinzu. Er <a
href="http://www.infodrom.org/~joey/log/?200505130653";>erklärte</a> außerdem,
dass es aufgrund von Unzulänglichkeiten der Archiv-\
<a href="http://cvs.debian.org/dak/?cvsroot=dak";>Programmsammlung</a>
nach der Veröffentlichung von Sarge keine weitere Aktualisierung mehr geben
könne.</p>

<p><strong>Schrittweises Einstellen von Non-US.</strong> Frans Pop <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/05/msg01163.html";>schlug
vor</a>, einen Absatz über das Ende des non-US-Archivs zu den <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/sarge/releasenotes">Release Notes</a> hinzuzufügen,
da es nicht funktioniere und nicht mehr benötigt werde. Von den 29 dort
immer noch bereitgestellten <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/05/msg01354.html";>Paketen</a>
wäre es nur bei fünfen nicht möglich gewesen, sie in das main-Archiv zu <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/05/msg01355.html";>verschieben</a>.</p>

<p><strong>Debian-Volatile-Strategie.</strong> Das »volatile«-Team <a
