Moinmoin!

Anbei die derzeit im Debian-CVS aktuelle Version des englischsprachigen
Originals und der derzeitige Stand der Übersetzung aus dem Alioth-CVS.
Zwar scheint noch kein Versand des Originals erfolgt zu sein, aber es
scheinen auch keine sonderlich umfangreichen Änderungen mehr zu
dräuen.

Korrekturvorschläge (diff -u) bitte bis ca. 17 Uhr MESZ am heutigen
Mittwoch, den 15. Juni, an mich oder direkt ins Alioth-CVS.
Sobald ich mit dem Abarbeiten der Korrekturvorschläge durch bin, werde
ich Gerfried eine kurze Statusmeldung senden, auf dass er den Versand
des Newsletters ankurbeln kann, und die jüngste Version ins Debian-CVS
einpflegen. Alles, was danach noch eintreffen mag, werde ich dann
direkt ins Debian-CVS einarbeiten, aber es wird wohl nicht mehr für
den Versand berücksichtigt werden können.

<p>Welcome to this year's 24th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  Last week has seen a lot of discussion on release goals and
the release team for etch.  Several people are already keen on discussing the
preparation and timing for the next release.  Branden Robinson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2005/05/msg00092.html";>\
explained</a> where news about <a href="http://alioth.debian.org/";>Alioth</a>
should be sent to instead of using private mail.</p>

<p><strong>Release Policy Changes.</strong> Andreas Barth <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/06/msg00157.html";>proposed</a>
a few changes to the release policy for the upcoming release of etch.  When
libraries are provided, other programs should link against them dynamically
instead of duplicating its source, build-dependencies must be static.  The
section about PIC libraries probably needs a technical discussion first.</p>

<p><strong>C++ ABI Changes.</strong> Matthias Klose <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00004.html";>\
announced</a> that the application binary interface (ABI) for C++ will be
changed in unstable.  All packages that contain shared libraries written in
C++ will have to be renamed.  After that, all packages that depend on these
need to be uploaded again.  Therefore unstable is frozen with regards to C++
libraries.</p>

<p><strong>Scheduling Talks for DebConf 5.</strong> Don Armstrong <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00007.html";>\
called</a> for <a
href="http://comas.linux-aktivaattori.org/debconf5/attendees/account/voting/";>\
votes</a> on the talks people would like to listen to at the upcoming <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0710-debconf">Debian Conference</a> in Helsinki,
Finnland. In order to reduce the likelihood that two talks that people really
wish to attend are scheduled for the exact same time, the scheduler will
attempt to minimise the conflicts between talks according to the vote.</p>

<p><strong>Sarge for AMD64 released.</strong> Jörg Jaspert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00005.html";>\
announced</a> that the AMD64 archive is declared stable as well.  In general
this release is the same as for the official <a href="$(HOME)/ports/">\
ports</a> in Debian, with only a few modified packages and several <a
href="http://amd64.debian.net/docs/package_changes.txt";>removed</a>.  Security
Support for this release is planned to be provided by the Debian Security Team
via <a href="$(HOME)/security/">security.debian.org</a>.

<p><strong>Debian for the Geeks.</strong> Bruce Byfield has written a <a
href="http://os.newsforge.com/os/05/06/10/1512236.shtml?tid=2";>review</a> of
the new Debian release.  He acknowledges the benefits the new <a
href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">installer</a> brings and that this
release uses current versions of many packages.  However, <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/aptitude";>aptitude</a> doesn't seem to be a
particularly easy program and several video cards were not detected
automatically.</p>

<p><strong>Development of dpkg.</strong> Scott James Remnant <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00010.html";>\
reported</a> that the current development branch 1.13 of <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/dpkg";>dpkg</a> has been uploaded into
unstable.  The new version contains improved handling of architectures,
especially for splitting the cpu architecture and the underlying operating
system kernel.  The values for several variables have been changed to reflect
reality better, but has the potential to break existing build scripts.</p>

<p><strong>Proficiency-level for Debian Packages?</strong> Mark Edgington <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01443.html";>wondered</a>
if it would be useful to add a field to the package description indicating the
minimum proficiency level that a user should have in order for a package to be
useful.  Enrico Zini <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00205.html";>thought</a>
about this as well but admitted, that it is difficult to measure "easyness"
universally.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Package Customisation.</strong> Roberto Sanchez <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00238.html";>announced</a>
his <a href="http://familiasanchez.net/~sanchezr/?page=debcustomize";>howto</a>
about the customisation of Debian packages.  The document starts with setting
up <a href="http://packages.debian.org/pbuilder";>pbuilder</a> for building the
customised packages and explains how to create a new package version by adding
a new changelog entry.</p>

<p><strong>Debian and SELinux.</strong> Luke Leighton <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00465.html";>wondered</a>
if there has been any progress turning the library <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/libselinux1";>libselinux1</a> into a required
package.  Stephen Frost <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00468.html";>explained</a>
that it's working the other way round and that e.g. <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/coreutils";>coreutils</a> needs to add a
dependency itself.  Petter Reinholdtsen <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00735.html";>added</a>
that using a library does not mean using SELinux.</p>

für Etch. Einige Leute möchten bereits unbedingt über Vorbereitung und

zeitliche Abstimmung der nächsten Veröffentlichung diskutieren.
Branden Robinson <a

erklärte</a>, wohin Neuigkeiten zu <a href="http://alioth.debian.org/";>Alioth</a>
lieber hingeschickt werden sollten, anstatt private E-Mails zu versenden.</p>

<p><strong>Änderungen der Veröffentlichungsrichtlinien.</strong> Andreas Barth 
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/06/msg00157.html";>schlug</a>
einige Änderungen an den Veröffentlichungsrichtlinien für die kommende
Veröffentlichung von Etch vor. Wenn Bibliotheken bereitgestellt würden,
sollten andere Programme dynamisch gegen sie linken, anstatt die Quellen zu
duplizieren, Bauabhängigkeiten müssten statisch sein. Der Abschnitt über
PIC-Bibliotheken benötige wahrscheinlich zuerst eine technische Diskussion.

<p><strong>C++ ABI-Änderungen.</strong> Matthias Klose <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00004.html";>\
gab bekannt</a>, dass die Anwendungsbinärschnittstelle (ABI) von C++ in 
Unstable geändert werde. Alle Pakete, die in C++ geschriebene 
Laufzeitbibliotheken enthielten, müssten umbenannt werden. Danach müssten alle
davon abhängigen Pakete erneut hochgeladen werden. Aus diesem Grunde sei 
Unstable im Hinblick auf C++-Bibliotheken eingefroren.

<p><strong>Vortragsplanung für DebConf 5.</strong> Don Armstrong <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00007.html";>bat\
</a> um <a
href="http://comas.linux-aktivaattori.org/debconf5/attendees/account/voting/";>\
Stimmen</a> für die Vorträge, die die Teilnehmer auf der kommenden <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0710-debconf">Debian-Konferenz</a> in Helsinki in
Finnland hören wollten. Um die Wahrscheinlichkeit zu verringern, dass zwei
Vorträge, die 
auf jeden Fall gehört werden wollten, auf den exakt gleichen Zeitpunkt geplant
würden, werde der Zeitplaner versuchen, Konflikte zwischen Vorträgen in
Abhängigkeit von den Stimmen zu minimieren.
</p>

<p><strong>Sarge für AMD64 veröffentlicht.</strong> Jörg Jaspert gab <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00005.html";>\
bekannt</a>, dass das AMD64-Archiv auch als stabil deklariert worden sei. Im 
Allgemeinen ist diese Veröffentlichung die gleiche wie die der offiziellen <a
href="$(HOME)/ports/">Portierungen</a> in Debian, mit nur wenigen modifizierten
Paketen und einer Reihe <a
href="http://amd64.debian.net/docs/package_changes.txt";>entfernten</a>. 
Es sei geplant, dass das Debian-Sicherheitsteam via <a
href="$(HOME)/security/">security.debian.org</a> Sicherheitsunterstützung für
diese Veröffentlichung leiste.

<p><strong>Debian für die Freaks.</strong> Bruce Byfield hat eine <a
href="http://os.newsforge.com/os/05/06/10/1512236.shtml?tid=2";>Besprechung</a>
der neuen Debian-Veröffentlichung geschrieben. Er bestätigt die Vorteile, die
das neue <a
href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">Installationsprogramm</a> bringe, und 
dass diese Veröffentlichung viele Pakete in aktueller Version verwende.
Allerdings schien <a href="http://packages.debian.org/aptitude";>aptitude</a>
kein besonders einfaches Programm gewesen zu sein und mehrere Videokarten
seien nicht automatisch erkannt worden.
</p>

<p><strong>Weiterentwicklung von dpkg.</strong> Scott James Remnant <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00010.html";>\
berichtete</a>, dass die derzeitige Entwicklungsversion 1.13 von <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/dpkg";>dpkg</a> nach Unstable hochgeladen
worden sei.  Die neue Version beinhalte die verbesserte Handhabung von
Architekturen, speziell um die CPU-Architektur und den
darunterliegenden Betriebssystem-Kern zu trennen. Die Werte für mehrere
Variablen seien geändert worden, um der Realität besser zu entsprechen, 
dies habe allerdings das Potenzial, bestehende Build-Skripte unbrauchbar zu
machen.</p>

# FE: bessere Übersetzung für Proficiency-level?
<p><strong>Kenntnisstand für Debian-Pakete?</strong> Mark Edgington <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01443.html";>fragte sich</a>,
ob es nützlich sein könnte, zu Paketbeschreibungen ein Feld hinzuzufügen, das
den minimalen Kenntnisstand angebe, den ein Benutzer haben sollte, so dass das
Paket für ihn nützlich wäre. Enrico Zini <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00205.html";>dachte</a>
auch schon darüber nach, aber räumte ein, dass es schwierig sei, »Einfachheit«
universell gültig einzuschätzen.</p>

<p><strong>Individuell angepasste Debian-Pakete.</strong> Roberto Sanchez <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00238.html";>machte</a>
sein <a href="http://familiasanchez.net/~sanchezr/?page=debcustomize";>Howto</a>
zur individuellen Anpassung von Debian-Paketen bekannt. Das Dokument beginne
mit dem Einrichten von <a href="http://packages.debian.org/pbuilder";>pbuilder</a>
zum Bauen der angepassten Pakete und erkläre, wie man eine neue Paketversion
erstellt, indem man einen neuen »changelog«-Eintrag hinzufügt.</p>

<p><strong>Debian und SELinux.</strong> Luke Leighton <a

href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00735.html";>fügte hinzu</a>,
dass die Verwendung einer Bibliothek noch nicht bedeute, auch SELinux zu
verwenden.</p>
