<p><strong>Allgemeiner Beschluss: Öffnen der Archive.</strong> Manoj Srivastava

gab</a> die Diskussionsperiode für den Allgemeinen Beschluss über die <a
href="$(HOME)/vote/2005/vote_002">Deklassifizierung der debian-private
Listen-Archive</a> bekannt. Anthony Towns hatte den Beschluss in Übereinstimmung
mit den Prinzipien der Offenheit und Transparenz vorgeschlagen, die Beiträge

<p><strong>General Resolution: Opening the Archive.</strong> Manoj Srivastava
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/11/msg00070.html";>\
announced</a> the discussion period for the general resolution about the <a
href="$(HOME)/vote/2005/vote_002">Declassification of debian-private list
archives</a>. Anthony Towns has proposed this resolution in accordance with
principles of openness and transparency to declassify and publish posts of
historical or ongoing significance made to the private mailing list.</p>
<p><strong>Abschlussbericht der Debian-Konferenz 5.</strong> Fabian Fagerholm <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/12/msg00001.html";>\
gab</a> den <a href="http://media.debconf.org/dc5/FinalReport.pdf";>\
Abschlussbericht</a> der diesjährigen <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0710-debconf">Debian-Konferenz</a> in Helsinki
bekannt. Das Dokument zielt auf die Teilnehmer der Konferenz und die allgemeine

<p><strong>Final Debian Conference 5 Report.</strong> Fabian Fagerholm <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/12/msg00001.html";>\
announced</a> the final <a href="http://media.debconf.org/dc5/FinalReport.pdf";>\
report</a> about this year's <a href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0710-debconf">\
Debian Conference</a> in Helsinki. The document is intended for those who
attended the conference and the general public. It includes impressions and
facts from the conference. A more detailed financial report will be available
later.</p>
<p><strong>Temporäre Verzeichnisse pro Benutzer?</strong> Noah Meyerhans <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00297.html";>berichtete</a>
über eine Diskussion innerhalb des Sicherheitsteams, die Verwendung von
temporären Verzeichnissen pro Benutzer als Standard zu forcieren. Mit
ordentlichem Code ist dies nur eine Frage einer angepassten PAM-Konfiguration.
Allerdings ist in einigen Programmen das <code>/tmp</code>-Verzeichnis fest
einkodiert.</p>
<p><strong>Temporary Directories per User?</strong> Noah Meyerhans <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00297.html";>reported</a>
about a discussion within the security team to push the use of per-user
temporary directories as default. With proper code this is only a question of
an adjusted PAM configuration. However, some programs hardcode the
<code>/tmp</code> directory.</p>
<p><strong>Stand des C++-Übergangs.</strong> Nathanael Nerode <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/12/msg00000.html";>\
berichtete</a> über den Übergang der C++-Bibliotheken aufgrund der <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00010.html";>\
Verwendung</a> eines anderen Speicherallokators in der Standard C++-Bibliothek.
Zwei Bibliotheken seien noch mit der älteren Bibliotheksversion gelinkt und
könnten <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/12/msg00003.html";>\
ignoriert</a> werden, fünf Pakete müssten noch regulär <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~djpig/gcc-transition/";>übergeleitet</a> werden,
fünf andere Pakete seien noch nicht auf allen Architekturen gebaut und eine
große Anzahl an Bibliotheken müsse noch übergeleitet werden.

<p><strong>C++ Transition Status Update.</strong> Nathanael Nerode <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/12/msg00000.html";>reported</a>
about the transition of C++ libraries due to the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00010.html";>use</a>
of a different memory allocator in the standard C++ library. Two libraries
are still linked to an older library version and can be <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2005/12/msg00003.html";>ignored</a>,
five packages still need to be <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~djpig/gcc-transition/";>transitioned</a>
regularly, five other packages haven't been built on all architectures yet and
a large number of libraries still need to be transitioned.</p>
<p><strong>Gerätedateien mit udev.</strong> Miles Bader <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00507.html";>bemerkte</a>,
dass mehrere Gerätedateien im alten Stil nach dem Booten eines Debian-Kernels
erzeugt würden, obwohl <a href="http://packages.debian.org/udev";>udev</a>
installiert sei. Marco
d'Itri <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00511.html";>\
erklärte</a>, dass diese aus der Kernelkonfiguration resultierten. Jedoch
könne ihre Erzeugung leicht durch eine geeignete Konfigurationsdatei für
<code>udev</code> verhindert werden.</p>
<p><strong>Device Nodes with udev.</strong> Miles Bader <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00507.html";>noticed</a>
that several old-style device nodes were created after booting a Debian kernel
with <a href="http://packages.debian.org/udev";>udev</a> also installed. Marco
d'Itri <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00511.html";>\
explained</a> that they result from the kernel configuration. However their
creation can easily be prevented with a proper configuration file for
<code>udev</code>.</p>
<p><strong>Neues Kernelpaket.</strong> Manoj Srivastava <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00590.html";>kündigte</a>
neue Eigenschaften im neuen
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/kernel-package";>kernel-package</a>-Paket
an, das eine große Umstrukturierung durchgemacht habe. Die Ramdisk-Erzeugung
sei verbessert worden und könne nun mittels einer Konfigurationsvariablen
gesteuert werden. Die Kernel-Image-Betreuerskripte verwänden nun
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/debconf";>debconf</a> und das
Post-Installations-Skript sei dadurch weniger gesprächig geworden.</p>
<p><strong>New Kernel Package.</strong> Manoj Srivastava <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00590.html";>announced</a>
new features in the new <a href="http://packages.debian.org/kernel-package";>\
kernel-package</a> package which has undergone a major restructuring. Ramdisk
generation has been improved and can now be controlled via a configuration
variable. The kernel image maintainer scripts now use <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/debconf";>debconf</a> and the
post-installation script has become less verbose by that.</p>
<p><strong>Bestimmen der vorgesehenen Debian-Version.</strong> Christopher
Crammond <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00684.html";>\
fragte sich</a>, ob es eine Möglichkeit gebe zu bestimmen, zu welcher Version
von Debian ein gegebenes Paket gehöre. Marc Brockschmidt <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00693.html";>erklärte</a>,
dass nahezu alle Pakete in Stable zuvor nach Unstable hochgeladen, nach Testing
übergegangen und später als Stable veröffentlicht worden seien.</p>
<p><strong>Determining the intended Debian Version.</strong> Christopher
Crammond <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00684.html";>\
wondered</a> if there is a way to determine which version of Debian a given
package belongs to. Marc Brockschmidt <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00693.html";>explained</a>
that almost all packages in stable have been uploaded to unstable before, were
migrated to testing and then were released as stable.</p>
<p><strong>Fallenlassen von Kerberos-4-Paketen?</strong> Andreas Barth <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00803.html";>bemerkte<a/>,
dass die <a href="http://packages.debian.org/src:krb4";>krb4</a>-Pakete
mehrere veröffentlichungskritische Fehler aufwiesen, die schwierig zu
beseitigen seien, und deren <a href="http://www.pdc.kth.se/kth-krb/";>\
Originalautoren</a> nicht mehr aktiv zu sein scheinen. Russ Allbery
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00808.html";>fügte
hinzu</a>, dass MIT Kerberos die Unterstützung für Kerberos Version 4 im Mai
2006 einstellen werde.</p>
<p><strong>Dropping Kerberos 4 Packages?</strong> Andreas Barth <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00803.html";>noticed</a>
that the <a href="http://packages.debian.org/src:krb4";>krb4</a> packages
accumulate several release-critical bugs that are difficult to fix and that
their <a href="http://www.pdc.kth.se/kth-krb/";>upstream</a> doesn't seem to be
active anymore. Russ Allbery <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00808.html";>added</a>
that MIT Kerberos is also going to drop Kerberos v4 support as of May of
2006.</p>
<p><strong>Unterstützung für GCC 2.95 einstellen?</strong> Thiemo Seufer
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00999.html";>fragte
sich</a>, wie viele Benutzer noch GCC 2.95 verwendeten. Da nur neun Pakete
eine Bauabhängigkeit darauf hätten, schlug er vor, diese Compiler-Version
aus Etch vor dessen Veröffentlichung zu entfernen.</p>
<p><strong>Dropping Support for GCC 2.95?</strong> Thiemo Seufer <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/11/msg00999.html";>wondered</a>
how many users GCC 2.95 still has. Since only 9 packages declare build
dependencies on it, he proposed to remove this compiler version from etch
before its release.</p>
