<p><strong>Reduzierung der Archivgröße.</strong> Gürkan Sengün

fasste</a> die Auswirkung verschiedener Komprimierungsalgorithmen auf die
komplette Größe des Archivs zusammen. Raphaël Hertzog

algorithms on the total size of the archive. Raphaël Hertzog <a

noticed</a> that the support of <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/unstable/utils/p7zip";>7-zip</a>
archives in <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Dpkg7Zip";>dpkg</a>
is evaluated in order to reduce Debian's archive
overall size. Steinar H. Gunderson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00760.html";>\
added</a> that CPU power is also a major point to take in account.</p>
<p><strong>Debian-Pakete mittels BitTorrent.</strong> George Danchev
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00190.html";>\
erwähnte</a> <a href="http://sianka.free.fr/documentation.html";>\

apt-torrent</a> zum Herunterladen von Paketen nach einem parallelen Upgrade.
Das Paket besteht aus einem apt-Proxy und einem BitTorrent-Paket-Besorger,
d.h. einem Seeder und einem Tracker. Es lief als ein Systemdienst.</p>
<p><strong>Debian Packages via BitTorrent.</strong> George Danchev <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00190.html";>mentioned</a>
<a href="http://sianka.free.fr/documentation.html";>apt-torrent</a> in order to
download packages upon an upgrade in parallel. The packages is composed of an
apt proxy and a BitTorrent package fetcher, i.e. a seeder and a tracker. It
runs as a system daemon.</p>
<p><strong>Bericht von der FOSS.IN 2005.</strong> Kartik Mistry

<p><strong>Report from FOSS.IN 2005.</strong> Kartik Mistry <a

about this year's <a href="http://foss.in/2005/";>FOSS.IN</a> conference that
was formerly known as <a href="http://linux-bangalore.org/";>Linux
Bangalore</a> and where two Debian related talks were held. Jaldhar Vyas also
<a href="http://www.braincells.com/debian/index.cgi/search/item=121";>\
reported</a> about meetings with other Indian Debian developers he met during
the conference.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifizierung der Archiv-Architektur.</strong> Anthony Towns
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/12/msg00014.html";>\
startete</a> den Entscheidungsfindungsprozess über die Architekturen, die
durch das offizielle Debian-<a href="http://ftp-master.debian.org/";>\
Archiv</a> verwaltet werden sollen. Die größte Beschränkung bei der
Akzeptanz neuer Architekturen sei deren Speichervoraussetzungen auf den
Servern. Für die Architekturen muss nachgewiesen werden, dass die

<p><strong>Archive Architecture Qualification.</strong> Anthony Towns <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/12/msg00014.html";>\

started</a> that decision process about the architectures that should be
handled by the official Debian <a href="http://ftp-master.debian.org/";>\
archive</a>. The main limitation on accepting new architectures is their
space requirement on the servers. Architectures will need to demonstrate that
the effort to support them isn't a complete waste of time. Strategies for
non-release architectures are also needed so that they could do snapshot
releases.</p>
<p><strong>Begünstigen von VIM als Standard.</strong> Joey Hess
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00796.html";>schlug
vor</a>, ein spezielles <a href="http://packages.debian.org/vim";>vim</a>-Paket
als Standard für vi zu verwenden. Dessen Betreuer sei in der Lage gewesen, ein
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/vim-tiny";>vim-tiny</a>-Paket zu erzeugen,
das nur minimal größer als <a href="http://packages.debian.org/nvi";>nvi</a>

<p><strong>Promoting VIM as default.</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00796.html";>proposed</a>
to use a special <a href="http://packages.debian.org/vim";>vim</a> package as
default vi. Its maintainer has managed to create a <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/vim-tiny";>vim-tiny</a> package that is only
marginally larger than <a href="http://packages.debian.org/nvi";>nvi</a>, which
is the standard vi included in the base system. Some <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00936.html";>default
settings</a> are not appreciated, though.<p>
<p><strong>/var/run gegen /run.</strong> Thomas Hood
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00909.html";>fragte
sich</a>, ob das Debian-System <code>/var/run</code> oder <code>/run</code>
verwenden sollte. Anthony Towns

<p><strong>/var/run versus /run.</strong> Thomas Hood <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00909.html";>wondered</a>
whether the Debian system should use <code>/var/run</code> or
<code>/run</code>. Anthony Towns <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00948.html";>\
summarised</a> the arguments pro and contra certain directories and concluded
that each of the solutions has a degree of ugliness.</p>
<p><strong>Gedanken zur Qualität von Debian.</strong> Lars Wirzenius
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg01034.html";>\
dachte</a> über Wege nach, Debian von einem technischen Standpunkt aus sicherer
zu machen. Er fasste mehrere Gebiete zusammen, wo die Qualität der
Debian-Distribution verbessert werde, inklusive der Verwendung von
Werkzeugen mit höherer Abstraktionsebene, dem Berichten und Korrigieren
von Fehlern, Fehlerausmerzpartys, automatischen Tests und

<p><strong>Thoughts on the Quality of Debian.</strong> Lars Wirzenius <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg01034.html";>thought</a>
about ways to make Debian better from a technical point of view. He
summarised several areas where the quality of the Debian distribution is
improved, including using tools with higher levels of abstraction, reporting
and fixing bugs, bug squashing parties, automated testing and quality
assurance.</p>
<p><strong>Verwendung einer veränderlichen Lizenz.</strong> Florent Bayle
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/12/msg00124.html";>fragte
sich</a>, wie man Pakete behandle, deren Lizenz auf eine Webseite verweist
anstatt sie einzubinden. Diese Lizenz könnte geändert werden, nachdem das
Paket in Debian aufgenommen worden sei. Decklin Foster
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/12/msg00133.html";>\
erklärte</a>, dass Debian die Software unter der Lizenz, die es erhalten

<p><strong>Using a moving License.</strong> Florent Bayle <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/12/msg00124.html";>wondered</a>
how to treat a package whose license links to a web page instead of including
it. This license could be altered after the package has been included in
Debian. Decklin Foster <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/12/msg00133.html";>explained</a>
that Debian may redistribute it under the license which it has received and
that the license text must be distributed along with the software.</p>
<p><strong>Allgemeiner Beschluss: GNU-Lizenz für freie Dokumentation.</strong>
Anthony Towns
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/12/msg00115.html";>schlug</a>
eine offizielle Stellungnahme im Hinblick auf die
<a href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html";>GNU-Lizenz für freie
Dokumentation</a> vor. Es sind jetzt sechs Monate seit den
<a href="$(HOME)/vote/2004/vote_003">redaktionellen Änderungen</a> des
<a href="$(HOME)/social_contract">Gesellschaftsvertrags</a> vergangen, die
die Verteilung nicht-freier Dokumentation mit Debian verböten.</p>
<p><strong>General Resolution: GNU Free Documentation License.</strong>
Anthony Towns <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/12/msg00115.html";>proposed</a>
an official statement with regards to the <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html";>GNU Free Documentation
License</a>. It's been six months after the <a
href="$(HOME)/vote/2004/vote_003">editorial changes</a> of the <a
href="$(HOME)/social_contract">social contract</a> that forbid non-free
documentation to be distributed with Debian.</p>
