wieder einige kleine Punkte im Original angemerkt (unklare
Formulierungen bzw. sprachliche Probleme). Nicht übersetzt sind die
Paketbeschreibungen. Desweiteren gibt es ein paar Stellen, wo ich mir
nicht sicher war (bspw. »native Debian packet«).
Bei einem unserer Standardtexte habe ich mich zudem über die
Übersetzung gewundert -- verbesserter Vorschlag im Kommentar anbei.

Debian community. Distributing firmware blobs in the Linux kernel is still
discussed controversially and probably will be for quite a while. Joshua Kwan

progress</a> with the installer on the Sparc architecture, so this may help
supporting another architecture. Manoj Srivastava also <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote-0404/msg00XXX.html";>called</a> for
votes on the <a href="$(HOME)/vote/2004/vote_003">general resolution</a> to
add editorial changes to the social contract a second time.</p>

<p><strong>Java Plugins for Mozilla.</strong> Arnaud Vandyck <a
href="http://people.debian.org/~avdyk/no_free_java_plugin_for_mozilla.html";>\
explained</a> that Debian does yet not have a free Java plugin for the <a
href="http:/packages.debian.org/mozilla">Mozilla</a> web browser. Michael Koch
is working on a <a href="http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/gcjwebplugin";>gcj
web plugin</a> for Mozilla that only works with Mozilla 1.7 and gcj 3.4. It
will be uploaded to sid shortly after <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/gcj";>gcj</a> 3.4 and Mozilla 1.7 were
uploaded. Those who don't want to wait for these packages, can try <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/konqueror";>konqueror</a>, which uses a
different approach.</p>
<p><strong>Java Plugins für Mozilla.</strong> Arnaud Vandyck <a

<p><strong>Proprietary Firmwares not a Release Issue.</strong> Anthony Towns
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release-0404/msg00060.html";>\
explained</a> that the firmware issue consists of two different problems,
firmware being non-free and violation of the <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU GPL</a>. While the first is
not an issue for sarge the latter is. He also pointed out that we the problem
was <a href="http://lwn.net/Articles/3467/";>known</a> for nearly two years.
Later he <a
href="http://azure.humbug.org.au/~aj/blog/2004/04/17#2004-04-17-firmware";>\
asserted</a> that both are not considered release issues at the moment.</p>
<p><strong>Properitäre Firmwares keine Release-Angelegenheit.</strong> Anthony Towns
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release-0404/msg00060.html";>\
erklärte</a> , dass die Firmware-Angelegenheit aus zwei verschiedenen
Problemen bestehe, zum einen dass die Firmware nicht frei sie und zum anderen

if GNOME 2.6 and GTK 2.4 should be uploaded into unstable and migrated into
testing, even though the GNOME team did not plan it. He wrote that the
packages in experimental have been tested sufficiently, built on not only one
architecture and package splits have been performed on packages in unstable as
well. The release manager raised some <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release-0404/msg00109.html";>concerns</a>,
though.</p>
<p><strong>GNOME 2.6 für Debian Unstable?</strong> Jordi Mallach <a

sich, ob GNOME 2.6 und GTK 2.4 nach unstable hochgeladen und nach testing

License</a> in a proprietary application. Federico Di Gregorio <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal-0404/msg00033.html";>believes</a>
that as long as one doesn't link directly with the GPL library and only use
the Python interface one is safe. Andrew Suffield, however, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal-0404/msg00050.html";>asserted</a>
that the resulting proprietary work must function without using any GPL
works.</p>
<p><strong>GPL und Skript-Sprachen.</strong> Wolfgang Borgert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal-0404/msg00030.html";>fragte sich</a>
ob es möglich sei, in Skripting-Sprachen geschriebene und unter der
<a href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU General Public License</a>
veröffentlichte Module in einer properitären Anwendung einzusetzen.
Federico Di Gregorio <a

dass man sicher sei, solange man nicht direkt gegen die
GPL-Bibliothek linke und nur die Python-Schnittstelle benutze.

<p><strong>Debian-Installer and Linux 2.6?</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/26-2004-04-14-01-25.html";>wrote</a>
that the <a href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">debian-installer</a> with
Linux 2.6 is so close he can already taste it. In fact, images can be built
already with only one hacked udeb, and it boots up and works fine all the way
to partitioning. The partitioner does not see IDE devices, though, but the
kernel does, so it looks like only a bug in the partitioner.</p>
<p><strong>Debian-Installer und Linux 2.6?</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/26-2004-04-14-01-25.html";>schrieb</a>

<p><strong>Marking native Debian Packages.</strong> Bartosz Fenski <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0404/msg01021.html";>noticed</a>
that several alleged native Debian packages are native only by accident and
not on intention. Therefore he proposed to use a special file in the
<code>debian/</code> directory to prevent these accidents. Henning Makholm <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0404/msg01026.html";>proposed</a>
<code>dpkg-source -b</b> to refuse to build a native source package if the
version number contains a dash instead.</p>

<p><strong>Erstellen von native Debian-Paketen.</strong> Bartosz Fenski <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0404/msg01021.html";>bemerkte</a>
dass mehrere angeblich native Debian-Pakete nur zufälligerweise native sein
und nicht mit Absicht. Daher schlug er eine spezielle Datei im
<code>debian/</code>-Verzeichnis vor, um solche Unfälle zu vermeiden.
Henning Makholm <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0404/msg01026.html";>schlug</a>
vor, dass sich <code>dpkg-source -b</b> weigern solle, native Pakete zu bauen,
wenn die Versionsnummer einen Gedankenstrich enthalte.

<p><strong>Debian GNU/Linux Reference Card.</strong> Wolfgang Borgert <a

Debian reference <a href="http://people.debian.org/~debacle/refcard/";>\
card</a> he was working on. He asked interested people to check the card and
report problems to him. The card contains information for people, who either
are new to Debian or are new to any Unix-like system.</p>
<p><strong>Debian GNU/Linux Referenz-Karte.</strong> Wolfgang Borgert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0404/msg01219.html";>kündigte</a> eine
Debian Referenz<a href="http://people.debian.org/~debacle/refcard/";>\
karte</a> an, an der er arbeite. Er bat interessierte die Karte zu überprüfen
und ihm Problem zu melden. Die Karte enthält Informationen für Leute, die
entweder neu bei Debian, oder neu bei jeglichem Unix-artigem System sein.

<p><strong>Open Software License.</strong> Free Ekanayaka wanted to <a

whether the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal-0404/msg00079.html";>Open Software
License</a> is compatible with the <a
href="$(HOME)/social_contract#guidelines">Debian Free Software Guidelines</a>.

believes</a> that it isn't because it terminates copyright permission for any
software patent action, including ones unrelated to the covered software.</p>

untested DVD image with Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 that can be <a
href="http://farbror.acc.umu.se/debian-cd-test/";>fetched</a> via <a
href="$(HOME)/CD/jigdo-cd/">jigdo</a>. He ran an older script of him that
even produced an image, but he could not test it. Jan Houstek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-cd-0404/msg00028.html";>added</a> that
there are unofficial <a
href="http://www.the-hidden-realm.de/debian/jigdo-area/";>images</a> by Jan
Kesten.</p>
<p><strong>Debian 3.0 DVD Images.</strong> Richard Atterer <a
