We congratulate the new project leader (DPL), Anthony
Towns. Holger Levsen <a href="http://layer-acht.org/blog/debian/#1-14";>\
announced</a> updated <a
href="http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2006/debian-edu-erkelenz/";>\
videos</a> from the last Skolelinux meeting as Ogg theoras. For the first
time the videos themselves contain a copyright and author note.</p>
<p><strong>Debian-Projektleiterwahl.</strong> Manoj Srivastava
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00004.html";>\
gab bekannt</a>, dass Anthony Towns der Gewinner der diesjährigen
<a href="$(HOME)/vote/2006/vote_002">Projektleiterwahl</a> sei und seine
Amtszeit am 17. April begonnen habe. Insgesamt hätten 421 Entwickler ihre Stimme
abgegeben. Anthony
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00152.html";>\
erklärte</a> anschließend, dass die allgemeine Philosophie, der er folgen
möchte, laute, dass es sehr wenig gebe, das man als <acronym_DPL /> tun könne,
was nicht
auch als regulärer Entwickler möglich sei.</p>
<p><strong>Debian Project Leader Election.</strong> Manoj Srivastava <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00004.html";>\
announced</a> Anthony Towns as the winner of this year's project leader <a
href="$(HOME)/vote/2006/vote_002">election</a> whose term started on April
17th. In total 421 developers have casted a ballot. Anthony <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00152.html";>stated</a>
afterwards that the general philosophy he is aiming to follow is that there's
very little you can do as DPL that you can't do as a regular developer.</p>
<p><strong>Autobuilder für Experimental.</strong> Wouter Verhelst
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00007.html";>\
erklärte</a>, dass das automatische Bauen von Paketen in der
<code>Experimental</code>-Distribution ein etwas spezieller Fall sei, was
bedeute, dass unsere Autobuilder für <code>Experimental</code> sich im
Vergleich zu anderen

korrekt versionierte Bauabhängigkeiten würden in <code>Experimental</code>

<p><strong>Experimental Autobuilder.</strong> Wouter Verhelst <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00007.html";>\
explained</a> that automatically building packages in the
<code>experimental</code> distribution is a bit of a special case, which means
that our <code>experimental</code> autobuilders act slightly differently compared to other
distributions. Only properly versioned build-dependencies will be pulled in
from <code>experimental</code> and taken from <code>unstable</code>
otherwise.</p>
<p><strong>Debian-Team für Python-Module.</strong> Raphaël Hertzog
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00008.html";>\
berichtete</a>, dass das Debian-Python-Modules-Team aufgestellt worden sei, um
zusammen Pakete von Python-Modulen zu betreuen. Sie hätten bereits eine
<a href="http://python-modules.alioth.debian.org/python-modules-policy.html";>\
Richtlinie</a> vorbereitet und ladeten alle Betreuer von Python-Modulen ein,

<p><strong>Debian Python Modules Team.</strong> Raphaël Hertzog <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00008.html";>\
reported</a> that the Debian Python Modules Team has been created to
collaboratively maintain packages of Python modules. They have prepared a <a
href="http://python-modules.alioth.debian.org/python-modules-policy.html";>\
policy</a> already and invite all maintainers of Python modules to join the
team.</p>
<p><strong>X11 Release 7-Übergang.</strong> Steve Langasek
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00010.html";>\
berichtete</a>, dass X.Org 7.0, auch bekannt als X11R7, nach
<a href="$(HOME)/releases/sid/">Unstable</a> hochgeladen wurden sei und es
einige Fehler mit sich gebracht habe. Als ein Ergebnis würde die X11R6-Hierarchie
verschwinden und neue Programme stattdessen nach <code>/usr/bin</code>
installiert. Statische Bibliothekspakete seien auch weggelassen worden.</p>
<p><strong>X11 Release 7 Transition.</strong> Steve Langasek <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00010.html";>\
reported</a> that X.Org 7.0 alias X11R7 has been uploaded into <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/sid/">unstable</a> and that it brought a few bugs with
it. As a result the X11R6 hierarchy is going away and new programs are
installed in <code>/usr/bin</code> instead. Static library packages have also
been dropped.</p>
<p><strong>Reformieren des New Maintainer Prozesses.</strong> Marc Brockschmidt
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00163.html";>\
fasste</a> seine Erfahrungen mit dem aktuellen Prozess zusammen. Einige Probleme
und Verzögerungen seien durch das Fehlen interessierter Personen verursacht
wurden, die als Bewerbungsleiter arbeiteten. Er schlug vor, die
Voraussetzungen vor einer Bewerbung zu erhöhen und Hochladerechte,
Systemkonten und Stimmrechte zu trennen.</p>
<p><strong>Reforming the New Maintainer Process.</strong> Marc Brockschmidt <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00163.html";>\
summarised</a> his experiences of the current process. Some problems and
delays are caused by the lack of interested people working as application
managers. He proposed to raise the requirements before applying and to
separate upload permissions, system accounts and voting rights.</p>
# Aufmerksam überprüfen!
<p><strong>Einkommenserzielung.</strong> Annamalai Gurusami
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00221.html";>fragte
sich</a>, warum das Debian-Projekt keine CDs verkaufe und Geld verdiene. Don
Armstrong <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00240.html";>\
erklärte</a>, dass das Debian-Projekt eine gemeinnützige Organisation
sei und dass andere Organisationen mehr an die Schwierigkeiten von Steuern und
die Wirtschaftlichkeit der Erstellung und des Verkaufs von CDs und DVDs gewöhnt
seien. Paul Johnson
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00244.html";>\
ergänzte</a>, dass es besser sei, direkt an Debian zu spenden anstatt ein
Produkt zu kaufen, von dem nur ein Bruchteil des Preises an das Projekt
ginge.</p>
<p><strong>On Generating Revenue.</strong> Annamalai Gurusami <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00221.html";>wondered</a>
why the Debian project doesn't sell CDs and generate revenue. Don Armstrong
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00240.html";>\
explained</a> that the Debian project is a non-profit organisation and that
other entities are more used to the complications of taxes and the economics
of making and selling CDs and DVDs. Paul Johnson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2006/04/msg00244.html";>added</a>
that it's better to donate to Debian directly instead of purchasing a product
of which only a fraction of the prize goes to the project.</p>
<p><strong>Probleme bei der Paketentfernung.</strong> Lars Wirzenius <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00693.html";>\
fasste</a> die Top-10-Probleme zusammen, die er in Debian-Paketen unter

linda</a> and <a href="http://packages.debian.org/lintian";>lintian</a> that
could detect some of these problems earlier.</p>
<p><strong>Meta-Informationen zur Lizenz.</strong> Jari Aalto <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00766.html";>\
schlug vor</a>, der control-Datei ein neues Feld hinzuzufügen, das die
Abkürzung der verwendeten Lizenz enthält. Martin Würtele <a

<p><strong>License Meta Information.</strong> Jari Aalto <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00766.html";>\
proposed</a> to add a new field to the control file that contains the
abbreviation of the used license. Martin Würtele <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00769.html";>pointed
out</a> that this information is already available on <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/";>packages.debian.org</a> without the need to
download the entire package. Jörg Jaspert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00778.html";>stated</a>
that such a field would not even ease NEW processing.</p>
<p><strong>BTS-SPAM markieren.</strong> Shaun Jackman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00811.html";>fragte sich</a>,
ob es möglich sei, über die <a href="$(HOME)/Bugs/">Fehlerdatenbank</a> (BTS)
versendeten Spam zu markieren. Don Armstrong <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00812.html";>wies darauf

if it would be possible to mark spam sent via the <a href="$(HOME)/Bugs/">bug
tracking system</a> (BTS). Don Armstrong <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg00812.html";>pointed
out<a> that a button with a similar functionality already exists on the web
pages for bug reports. Additionally, Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg01213.html";>provided</a>
a <a href="http://packages.debian.org/mutt";>Mutt</a> configuration snippet for
reporting list spam via mail.</p>
<p><strong>Änderungen im inoffiziellen AMD64-Archiv.</strong> Jörg Jaspert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00005.html";>\
informierte</a> über eine funktionelle Änderung auf <a href="http://amd64.debian.net/";>\
amd64.debian.net</a>, das eine inoffizielle Portierung von Debian auf die <a
href="$(HOME)/ports/amd64/">AMD64</a>-Plattform bietet. Seit der jüngst
erfolgten Aufnahme von AMD64 zu den offiziell unterstützten Plattformen
bestünde kein Bedarf mehr an einem inoffiziellen AMD64-Build-Daemon. Benutzer
von Testing oder Unstable sollten auf einen offiziellen <a

<p><strong>Changes to the unofficial AMD64 Archive.</strong> Jörg Jaspert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/04/msg00005.html";>\
informed</a> about a functional change on <a href="http://amd64.debian.net/";>\
amd64.debian.net</a>, which maintains an unofficial port of Debian for the <a
href="$(HOME)/ports/amd64/">AMD64</a> platform. Since the recent
inclusion of AMD64 as an officially supported platform there is no need
for an unofficial AMD64 build daemon anymore. Users of testing or
unstable should switch over to an official <a
href="$(HOME)/mirrors/list">mirror</a>, users of sarge,
the current stable release, are not affected by this change.</p>
