<p><strong>Debian-Server nach Kompromittierung wiederhergestellt.</strong> James Troup <a

Der Eindringling erhielt über ein kompromittiertes
Entwicklerkonto <a href="$(HOME)/News/2006/20060713">Zugriff</a> und verwendete
eine lokale <a
href="http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-2451";>\
Kernelverwundbarkeit</a>, um seine Privilegien zu erweitern.

<p><strong>Debian Server restored after Compromise.</strong> James Troup <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/07/msg00003.html";>\
reported</a> that gluck.debian.org was compromised. The machine was taken
down for investigation and the system was reinstalled. The
intruder got <a href="$(HOME)/News/2006/20060713">access</a> via a compromised
developer account and used a local kernel <a
href="http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-2451";>\
vulnerability</a> to elevate privileges.</p>
<p><strong>Aktualisierte Sarge CD-Images mit neuerem Kernel.</strong> Kenshi
Muto <a href="http://kmuto.jp/b.cgi/debian/d-i-2616.htm";>kündigte</a>
aktualisierte <a href="http://www.debian.org/releases/sarge";>CD-Images</a> für
die <a href="$(HOME)/ports/i386/">i386</a>-Architektur von
<a href="$(HOME)/releases/sarge/">Sarge</a> an, die einen neueren Kernel
verwendeten. Mit Linux 2.6.16-15 von <a href="http://www.backports.org/";>\
backports.org</a> seien auch mehrere Basiswerkzeuge wie grub, udev und parted

several base utilities such as grub, udev and parted have been updated as
well.</p>
<p><strong>Alter debian-devel-Kanal auf Freenode.</strong> Erich Schubert <a
href="http://blog.drinsama.de/erich/en/linux/debian/2006071302-dd-on-freenode";>\
entdeckte</a>, dass der alte <code>debian-devel</code>-IRC-Kanal auf
<a href="http://www.freenode.net/";>Freenode</a> offiziell als verlassen
markiert wurde. Nachdem der irc.debian.org-Alias von Freenode nach
<a href="http://www.oftc.net/";>OFTC</a> <a
href="$(HOME)/News/2006/20060604">übertragen</a> wurde, wurde der alte Kanal
nicht mehr viel benutzt. Die verbliebenen Benutzer im Kanal würden dazu
ermutigt, zu dem neuen Kanal auf OFTC zu wechseln.</p>
<p><strong>Old debian-devel Channel on Freenode.</strong> Erich Schubert <a
href="http://blog.drinsama.de/erich/en/linux/debian/2006071302-dd-on-freenode";>\
discovered</a> that the old <code>debian-devel</code> IRC channel on <a
href="http://www.freenode.net/";>freenode</a> is officially flagged as
abandoned. After the irc.debian.org alias has been <a
href="$(HOME)/News/2006/20060604">transferred</a> from freenode to <a
href="http://www.oftc.net/";>OFTC</a> the old channel wasn't used much
anymore. The remaining users in the channel are encouraged to switch over to
the one on OFTC.</p>

<p><strong>Swap auf einem logischen Volume.</strong> David Härdeman
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg00974.html";>fragte
sich</a>, ob die LVM-Pakete so
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2005/10/msg00842.html";>\
abgeändert</a> werden sollten, dass die Swap-Partition während der Installation
als logisches Volume anstatt als separate Partition erstellt werde. Dies
würde es erlauben, Swap-Speicher einfach mit den üblichen Werkzeugen zu
vergrößern und zu verkleinern, wenn es nötig sei.</p>
<p><strong>Swap on a logical Volume.</strong> David Härdeman <a

whether to <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2005/10/msg00842.html";>change</a>
LVM packages so that the swap partition is created as a logical volume rather
than a separate partition during the installation. This would allow swap
space to be easily enlarged and shrunk using the regular tools when
needed.</p>

<a href="http://packages.debian.org/tar";>tar</a> in Bezug auf an das Programm
übergebene Wildcards (Jokerzeichen) ein neues Verhalten implementiere. Die

Originalentwickler änderten <code>tar</code>, um es zur UNIX98-Spezifikation
konform und kompatibel mit der Originalversion des Werkzeugs zu machen. Die

<p><strong>New Wildcard Behaviour of tar.</strong> Bdale Garbee <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01108.html";>explained</a>
that the new version of <a href="http://packages.debian.org/tar";>tar</a>
incorporates a new behaviour with respect to wildcards passed to the program.
The upstream developers have altered <code>tar</code> in order to make it
conform to the UNIX98 specification and compatible with the original
version of the utility. The change is documented in detail in a special
<code>NEWS.Debian</code> file.</p>
<p><strong>Zu entfernende Pakete.</strong> Kevin McCarty <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2006/07/msg00042.html";>aktualisierte</a>
die <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2006/05/msg00026.html";>Liste</a>
der Pakete, die veröffentlichungskritische Fehler mit einem Alter von mehr als
einem Monat und nur wenige durch <a href="http://popcon.debian.org/";>Popcon</a>
aufgezeichnete Benutzer haben. 15 der 52 Quellpakete wurden korrigiert und acht
Quellpakete haben vom Betreuer die Bestätigung erhalten, dass sie entfernt

<p><strong>Packages to be removed.</strong> Kevin McCarty <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2006/07/msg00042.html";>updated</a> the
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2006/05/msg00026.html";>list</a> of
packages that have open release-critical bugs older than one month and only
very few users recorded in <a href="http://popcon.debian.org/";>popcon</a>. 15
out of 52 source packages have been fixed and 8 source packages have received
an acknowledgement from the maintainer to be removed.</p>
<p><strong>Unterstützung für Intel-basierte Macs.</strong> Junichi Uekawa
(上川 純一) gab seine Bemühungen <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01210.html";>bekannt</a>,
die Debian-Unterstützung für Intel-basierte Mac-Computer zu fördern. Frans Pop <a

his effort to foster Debian support for Intel-based Mac computers. Frans Pop
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01213.html";>added</a>
that some work has already been done on the <a
href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/">installer</a>. Owners of such machines
are welcome to jump in and contact the developers on the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/";>debian-boot</a> list.</p>
<p><strong>Debian-Pakete für Squid 3.</strong> Luigi Gangitano gab seine <a
href="http://bugs.debian.org/364652";>Absicht</a> <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/04/msg00818.html";>bekannt</a>,
die neue Version von <a href="http://packages.debian.org/squid";>Squid</a>, dem

version of <a href="http://packages.debian.org/squid";>squid</a>, the Internet
object <a href="http://www.squid-cache.org/";>cache</a>, for Debian. It has
been rewritten from scratch and provides a number of new features. The <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/squid3";>squid3</a> packages may be installed
in parallel with the older packages.</p>
<p><strong>Paket-Diff-Dateien.</strong> Tyler MacDonald <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01216.html";>fragte
sich</a>, ob Index-Diff-Dateien für lokale Archive überhaupt verwendet werden
sollten. Sie wurden erfunden um zu verhindern, beim Upgrade mehrere Megabyte
an <code>Packages</code>-Dateien herunterladen zu müssen, insbesondere
für Maschinen mit niedriger oder begrenzter Bandbreite. Alec Berryman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01229.html";>wies darauf
hin</a>, wie diese Funktion deaktiviert werden könne. Mike Hommey <a

<p><strong>Packages Diff Files.</strong> Tyler MacDonald <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01216.html";>wondered</a>
if index diff files should be used for local archives at all. They have been
invented to avoid the need to download several megabytes of
<code>Packages</code> files upon upgrade, especially for machines with low or
limited bandwidth. Alec Berryman <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/06/msg01229.html";>pointed</a>
out how to disable this feature. Mike Hommey additionally <a
href="http://bugs.debian.org/372712";>reported</a> that after a long time
without an update and with decent bandwidth it actually takes more time
merging all diff files than downloading the full file.</p>
