of Debian event organisers last weekend. Alexander Schmehl <a

will be overhauled in the near future.</p>

for Work-Needing and Prospective Packages (WNPP) in the <a

Firefox due to the sheer size of 3 MB. Ben Armstrong <a

reminded</a> the existence of light <a href="$(HOME)/devel/wnpp/">pages</a>
with direct links to the different WNPP packages sections.</p>
<p><strong>Durchsicht der Debian-Entwicklungswerkzeuge.</strong>

As part of his research on Debian, Martin Krafft <a

<p><strong>Neue Desktop-Funktionen.</strong> Gustavo Noronha Silva gab den
Upload einer neuen Version von <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/unstable/gnome/update-notifier";>\
Update-notifier</a> <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/08/msg00629.html";>\
bekannt</a>. Dieses ursprünglich von Ubuntu erstellte Werkzeug stellt ein
Benachrichtigungs-Icon in dem Benachrichtigungs-Gebiet bereit und warnt den

Benutzer über verfügbare Aktualisierungen. Diese Version des Debian-Pakets
benachrichtige über Neustart-Anforderungen nur für kritische Pakete und
informiere über Debian CDs/DVDs, die in das Laufwerk eingelegt worden seien.
Solche Funktionen sollten dazu beitragen, dass Debian eine nettere
Desktop-Distribution werde.

<p><strong>New Desktop Features.</strong> Gustavo Noronha Silva <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/08/msg00629.html";>\
announced</a> the upload of a new version of <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/unstable/gnome/update-notifier";>\
update-notifier</a>. This tool, that was initially made by Ubuntu, puts
a notification icon in the notification area and warns the user about
updates being available. The version of the Debian package notifies about
reboot requirements for critical packages only and informs about Debian
CDs/DVDs inserted in the drive. Such features should contribute to
make Debian a nicer desktop distribution.</p>
<p><strong>Öffentlichkeitsarbeit für Debian-Veranstaltungen.</strong> Joey
Schulze <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-events-eu/2006/08/msg00000.html";>\
bat darum</a>, Veranstaltungen mehr zu betonen. Er schlug auch vor, mehr
Vorträge und Workshops mit Debian-Hintergrund zu halten und mehr Werbung
zu machen. Dies würde mehr Interesse bei Benutzern wecken, Debian-Leute auf
Ausstellungen und Konferenzen zu treffen, und Entwicklern eine bessere
Möglichkeit geben, mit Benutzern von Person zu Person zu reden. Es wäre auch
nett, falls ein <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2006/0624-froscon-report.wml">Bericht</a> nach der
Veranstaltung geschrieben werden könnte.</p>
<p><strong>Publicity for Debian Events.</strong> Joey Schulze <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-events-eu/2006/08/msg00000.html";>\
asked</a> to emphasise events a bit more again. He suggested also more
talks and workshops with a Debian background and more promotion. This would
generate more interest by users to meet Debian people at exhibitions and
conferences and would give developers a better chance to talk to users in
person. It would also be nice if a <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2006/0624-froscon-report.wml">report</a> would be
written after the event.</p>
<p><strong>Aktualisierungen zu Alioth.</strong> Roland Mas <a
href="http://roland.entierement.nu/blog/2006/08/17/bits-about-alioth.html";>\
berichtete</a>, dass Costa, der <a href="http://alioth.debian.org/";>Alioth</a>-Host,
zum Bereitstellen von Quellarchiven nun sowohl git als auch bzr unterstütze.
Zusätzlich erklärte er, wie man mittels beider Systeme auf die Depots zugreifen
könne. Außerdem sei die Benutzerreplikation verbessert worden, so dass sich
die Ausfallzeiten von 15 Minuten auf nur wenige Sekunden reduzierten.</p>
<p><strong>Alioth Updates.</strong> Roland Mas <a
href="http://roland.entierement.nu/blog/2006/08/17/bits-about-alioth.html";>\
reported</a> that the <a href="http://alioth.debian.org/";>Alioth</a> host
costa now supports both git and bzr for hosting source archives. He added an
explanation how to use both systems to access the repositories. User
replication has also been improved so that the downtime drops from 15 minutes
to only a few seconds.</p>
<p><strong>Vorschlag: Etch Kernel-Zeitplan.</strong> Frederik Schüler <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/08/msg00413.html";>schlug
vor</a>, 2.6.18 – der innerhalb der nächsten vier Wochen veröffentlicht
werden solle – als endgültigen Kernel für <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/etch/">Etch</a> auszuwählen und ihn Anfang November
einzufrieren. Frans Pop würde es allerdings <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/08/msg00415.html";>\
bevorzugen</a>, dass der Kernel mindestens einen Monat in <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/unstable/">Unstable</a> verbliebe, bevor er nach <a
href="$(HOME)/releases/testing/">Testing</a> migriere.
</p>
<p><strong>Etch Kernel Schedule Proposal.</strong> Frederik Schüler <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/08/msg00413.html";>suggested</a>
to select 2.6.18, which is to be released within the next four weeks, as final
kernel for <a href="$(HOME)/releases/etch/">etch</a> and freeze it at the
beginning of November. Frans Pop, however, would <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/08/msg00415.html";>prefer</a>
the kernel to remain in <a href="$(HOME)/releases/unstable/">unstable</a> at
least one month before it migrates into <a href="$(HOME)/releases/testing/">\
testing</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Neue Architekturen für Pakete.</strong> Ludovic Brenta <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00537.html";>fragte
sich</a>, wie er den <a href="$(HOME)/devel/buildd/">Bau-Daemon</a> informieren
solle, dass ein Paket auf einer anderen Architektur als vorher gebaut werden
solle. Luk Claes <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00538.html";>\
antwortete</a>, dass die Betreuer von <a
href="http://cvs.debian.org/srcdep/Packages-arch-specific?cvsroot=dak";>\
Packages-arch-specific</a> benachrichtigt werden müssten. Wouter Verhelst <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00583.html";>ergänzte</a>
eine Erklärung, warum die wanna-build-Datenbank nicht die control-Dateien

<p><strong>New Architectures for Packages.</strong> Ludovic Brenta <a

how to inform <a href="$(HOME)/devel/buildd/">build daemon</a> that a package
should be built on another architecture than before. Luk Claes <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00538.html";>answered</a>
that the maintainers of <a
href="http://cvs.debian.org/srcdep/Packages-arch-specific?cvsroot=dak";>\
Packages-arch-specific</a> need to be contacted. Wouter Verhelst <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00583.html";>added</a> an
explanation why the wanna-build database doesn't use control files but archive
index files.</p>
<p><strong>Pakete mit Subversion verwalten.</strong> Marcus Better <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00835.html";>begann</a> vor
kurzem damit, <a href="http://packages.debian.org/subversion";>Subversion</a> zur
Verwaltung seiner Pakete zu verwenden, und fragte sich, was das empfohlene
#FE: IMHO ruhig »Layout« beibehalten.
Depot-Layout sei. Der Sinn eines üblichen Layouts sei die Möglichkeit,
Unterstützungswerkzeuge zu erstellen, die den Umgang mit diesem Layout
weniger beschwerlich machten.

<p><strong>Managing Packages with Subversion.</strong> Marcus Better recently
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/07/msg00835.html";>\
started</a> to use <a href="http://packages.debian.org/subversion";>\
subversion</a> to maintain his packages and wondered what the recommended
repository layout would be. The point of having a common layout is that it
would be possible to write support tools that make this layout less cumbersome
to work with.</p>

<p><strong>Öffentliche Vorabversion zur Creative Commons 3.0.</strong> Evan Prodromou <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2006/08/msg00051.html";>berichtete</a>
über die <a href="http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/6017";>öffentliche
Diskussion</a> zur <a
href="http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/cc-licenses/2006-August/003855.html";>\
Vorabversion</a> der nächsten Version der <q>Creative Commons</q>-Lizenzen.
Die Änderungen gegenüber der Version 2.x seien größtenteils auf das Bestreben
zurückzuführen, die Lizenzen kompatibel zu Debians

Software (<acronym_DFSG />) zu gestalten. Er fragte sich, ob die
Anti-DRM-Anforderungen der Vorabversion der Lizenz sie inkompatibel zu den
DFSG mache, sofern keine Klausel zum gleichzeitigen Vertrieb gegeben sei.</p>
<p><strong>Creative Commons 3.0 Public Draft.</strong> Evan Prodromou <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2006/08/msg00051.html";>reported</a>
on the <a href="http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/6017";>public</a> <a
href="http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/cc-licenses/2006-August/003855.html";>\
draft</a> of the next version of Creative Commons licenses. The changes from
the 2.x version are largely due to an effort to make the licenses compatible
with the Debian Free Software <a href="$(HOME)/social_contract#guidelines">\
Guidelines</a> (DFSG). He wondered if the anti-DRM requirement in the license
draft, without a parallel distribution proviso, make it incompatible with the
DFSG?</p>
